The thing we do have but is Nathan Cleary, Turbo,Teddy,Hass and Latrell.
You could argue they are the best 5 players in the game when firing.

Turbo used to but not this year, looks like he's playing so as not to get injured

It's not about that.

It's about rewarding form.

Hypothetically, if Penrith were out of the 8, but Cronulla were runaway comp leaders - would Hynes get the 7 jersey?

No chance in hell.

And that's why it's a joke to me.

Not to mention players playing for one state in the juniors, then switching, or playing for another nation, and then playing Origin.

I agree with your last part.

Playing in origin was suppose to decide who would pull on a Kangaroos jersey at the end of the year when I was growing up.

Now there will be players playing for Australia without playing Origin. As half of the squad piss off and play for Samoa and Tonga.

The Kangaroos players who played in the WC final vs Samoa who are not part of Origin Game 1 are:

Wighton - retired
Jurbo - injured
RCG - injured
Angus Crichton - dumped, but late returning from injury

so it’s still a pretty safe call that you won’t be playing for Australia unless you play origin

I see it differently

I’ve disagreed plenty with teams they’ve picked over the years and there’s a few in this year I don’t agree with but form is subjective and teams are picked on opinion why get so stressed about it

In saying that he Fittler/ RCG scenario is a joke

also form over a longer period counts for a fair bit. Teddy as an example is clearly not the best fullback on Current form but no way in hell would you seriously consider not picking him.

I think I’ve learned not to get so stressed about this player and that player getting picked and just enjoy the game and build up for what it is.

And I also no longer get too stressed about switching allegiance particularly in the case of third tier nations. I reckon we should build them up and make our international game as strong as possible.

In any case I’ll be watching next week and cheering on the blues

I'm not stressed about it.

I just think it doesn't reward form, or make the goal of playing Origin one day achievable for many players, because they will never get a go.

Take William Kennedy - he's averaging five tackle breaks a game by my maths, and one try assist per game, to go along with averaging over 130 metres per game on average.

But he will never get a crack, because there is an incumbent player ahead of him, who also happens to be the captain.

This culture of incumbency is something I don't agree with.

The onus needs to be on the incumbent to prove he deserves his spot back.

Then it would be a list of the top 8 players in the game, not the top 5.

Munster yes. Grant? I can't put him at that level. Same as Walsh. Walsh's defense isn't proven and let's see him next year once coaches have had time to work the little cocky prick out. Different ball game.
Right now Dylan's a better player. Coaches worked him out and he evolved his game

Why take it to a shithole like Sadelaide?? The inbred premier continually takes pot shots at RL. Meanwhile in Brisbane it’s well over 250 bucks for any ticket ffs
