I think a decision should be made in early 24 for entry in 2026 and then they are selling the 9th game into existing contract for 2 seasons and hopefully a massive contract for the next deal

That and and a stand alone NRLW and that content should push the $500m mark

Red won`t like that and I tend to agree, no folding any extra games into existing contracts with some pitiful up-grade, take the whole shebang and put it to the market.

Most of the games foxtel doesn’t even have exclusivity over they share with seven in the home teams market

can you imagine nrl would be allowed the same by fox?

total rip off

@BlueandGold 's table on the last page

Had Fox paying $227m cash for AFL this year.

NRL is $400m cash. We know ch9 is $115m

That leaves $285m that Fox/Sky are paying.
even taking out the Sky money

Fox are paying more for NRL currently and that is rip off?

Less content, less advertising sponsor on board and higher is bad?

Well if you believe the fumblers fox is paying them 400 million pa after next year with basically no extra content except a single gather round

fox increasing their offer by 175 million apparently

Semifinal like ratings , seems like every week we are having 2 x million+ ratings. NRL should be negotiating 18th team next year while it is hot and open up tenders in 2025 for the next rights
We'd have two more with Saturday night and Sunday twilight games on F2A.

No chance they are getting $400m cash from Fox, There simply isn't the money there

The $550m

would be

$150m ch7
$50-$70m Telstra

Leaving $330-$350m from Fox

That allows for remembering that factors in inflation etc with that.

At 3% inflation. Take off 20% of the difference when comparing it to the current deal.

For example. If Fox is paying $260m for NRL this year.

Then adding the 3% next year. That becomes $268m next year. You do that every year until 2031 and see the difference isn't that big

I've said it before but the NRL can actually introduce a 9th game into the competition before the current contract expires. There are 12 new games from adding an 18th team that the NRL will have to sell. 9 and Foxtel don't just get them for free.

Add an extra round to the season (which will be easy as byes will be taken out) and you get 21 games to sell. If it's in a non competing timeslot against 9 and Foxtel you can also sell it to a rival network.

Two extra years of Sunday or Monday night football can easily be added onto the next package deal.

Which is what AFL did by adding the extra rounds this year and next

Yes and in the NRL's case it could be a 27 round season just like this year. 26 home and away games including magic round.

Then each team gets a bye so you'd have 3 weeks of the season with NRL games on Thursday, Friday and Saturday nights (basically 1 split round) with Origin on Sunday night. That keeps Origin a big spectacle and each NRL team is only impacted once each and we don't open any doors for rival codes to move in on those weeks.

The fact afl had to offer more content is a reflection that their rights don’t offer value to broadcasters and their expansion teams have failed to grow tv viewers in nsw and qld

I also suspect team 19 was also negotiated as part of the tv deal as well and without it the rights go down

Sunday Origin loses the build up with 3 days less. Maybe the NRLW can start its season then or something so there can be content and no NRL.

While the NRL ratings are just superb....but seriously do they count the huge numbers who are watching in pubs, clubs, casinos, and the amounts of people watching at every home? No they don't. So let's add another tally to our ratings, but I know you'll never get a precise accurate number..... but I know its big, coz where I watch my Rugby League atleast a 100 people are watching,so let's add all the other venues who are watching aswell and it all adds up....

Well speaking of NSW it could be argued that the AFL had no FTA TV viewers under 40 years old watching in Sydney last night as 1000 viewers is within the error margin.

Well I'd argue that Origin over shadows the club competition a little bit too much during that period, almost to the point where a not insignificant amount of people check out as they know the results in those rounds are severely Origin impacted. There's got to be a better compromise.

You also need a few weeks for recovery between games too.

As for people checking out, That is fine the game only needs to provide the content

Yes as @Wb1234 pointed out since "hours viewed" and now adding the crowd figure to the live audience figure has magically appeared (due to popular demand apparently, love to see the evidence of that) when it started to become as obvious as dog`s balls that League figures were surging ahead, why aren`t we including an estimated figure of all the tens of thousands crowded into pubs and clubs around our large regional towns and cities in NSW and Qld, something other states don`t have.
Damn it, chuck in another 200 000 + to the figures every week.

Oztam wants to seem relevant that is the only reason, Otherwise we'd see actual streaming figures
