Works on an average number of people per ratings unit in each household. It’s a well established system. It can’t assume you had a visitor or mum went out for tea
But people invite friends over for a BBQ for these events. Anyway, I reckon the estimate is way over 5 million.

You can estimate all you like mate. The ratings system is well established based on significant statistical analysis and testing over many decades. ‘I think’ doesn’t really cover it. Remember it’s based on sampling. It’s not a wild guess.

Ok mate, did they count the 500 last night at my local club?
Sorry I'm a very stubborn person,I sometimes don't believe these stats.

Be as stubborn as you like. It doesn’t mean anything. The ratings system doesn’t and can’t count clubs. It counts the amount of people with ratings boxes in their household who turned on the game and averaged out the amount of time they kept the game on.
I worked in stats for some years. Deniers are just people who don’t like what they read. Advertisers want hard evidence. Ratings provide hard evidence. Television executives don’t say to themselves ‘it says 3 million but I reckon it’s ……’. If you want to argue against statistical analysis go find a wall and bang your head.

Well the dick advertisers should go to venues across NSW and Queensland, they'll be shocked just how many watch the games that don't get counted. Last night I drove past two venues after the game and people were outside leaving after origin, it's mind blowing.
Like the Melbourne cup the race that stops the nation.
Origin is the same,if not better then the boring horse racing crap.

Yeah the ratings for Sport are always well below actual figures.

I mean even Kayo is guessed using the same system, despite being able to get actual figures

Oh well good luck with your personal crusade to convince advertisers to look beyond hard statistical facts

It’s definitely not a fact as it’s a sample size , but it’s the most cost effective system that they are willing to use . Also I don’t think it matters as much how many people in pubs, clubs and social events are watching the game as they don’t have that 1 on 1 connection with the tv that the advertisers want ( as that is the only reason for the ratings).

Stop making sense. Stats like these are the best way of measuring an audience within reason. It’s as close to factual as is reasonably possible. Hypothesising about people in pubs and clubs is pointless as there is no way of measuring it even remotely accurately.
