Sets new TV viewing records

Biggest Australian streaming event ever

England v Spain Final: 5.54 million viewers

The FIFA Women’s World Cup 2023™ has captured the hearts and minds of the nation, with the Seven Network’s live and free coverage delivering the biggest viewing audiences across all screens since the OzTAM audience measurement system started in 2001.

Almost 18.6 million Australians watched the tournament across the screens of Seven, including 14.76 million reached on broadcast and 3.82 million on 7plus.

Last night’s thrilling Final reached 5.54 million Australians, as Spain triumphed over England to become the FIFA Women’s World Cup 2023™ champions.

The Final drew an average national total audience of 3.08 million on Seven and 7plus, including 2.7 million viewers on Seven (2 million in the capital cities) and another 373,000 viewers on 7plus.

The Final was the #1 broadcast program last night nationally and in the capital cities in all people, 25 to 54s and 16 to 39s. 7plus dominated BVOD viewing yesterday, with a 59.2% share. In live streaming, it had an 66.3% share.

The game peaked at 3.21 million viewers on broadcast and dominated its broadcast timeslot, scoring a 66.1% commercial audience share in total people, 70.5% in 25 to 54s and 78.4% in 16 to 39s.

The FIFA Women’s World Cup 2023™ delivered some of the biggest total TV audience numbers seen in Australia in years.

The Matildas’ Semi Final against England on 16 August became the most-watched TV program in more than two decades, with an average audience of 7.2 million and a reach of 11.15 million. It was also the most streamed event ever in Australia, with 957,000 viewers on 7plus. (The OzTAM data does not include the huge out of home viewing of the tournament in pubs, clubs, stadia and so on.)

Are you quite sure Fox Fumble ratings have bounced back? The figures look abysmal to me.

If "Origin fatigue" is the culprit, more likely to be "NRL fans talking down NRL during Origin" fatigue.

WC Soccer ratings were consistently higher in Sydney than Melbourne. Lot to unpack there. One factor must be that more big games were played in Sydney. Same way that Origin generally rates better in the host city.

Try going to the stadiums thread. Apparently in Melbourne we should play our big games in an afl owned afl stadium and not aim for a state of the art rectangular ground. Some small minded buggers here mate.

As for the ratings we got hit by the cricket and the World Cup. It’s a unique situation that affected both codes. Our other problem now that wasn’t evident early in the season is lop sided games. In at least three games this weekend teams are paying $5 to win in a two horse contest. But We’ll hit a purple patch in the finals. Despite everything it’s been a great year for ratings.

afl pay tv ratings have been bad all year hence why I ignored them in my comment

but how long has it been since we’ve broken 1 million for a game ?

they are managing it now

AFL benefitted from channel seven having the rights to the WWC. Seven were able to promote the AFL during Matildas coverage.

I believe TV executives call it the 'halo effect '
Olympics, World Cups... anything that is 'must see tv' has a knock on effect to other shows on the network. The voice, AFL...everything on ch7 is rating higher than it would normally.

Any thoughts on finals-disrupted round 27? How will it affect ratings?

More players missing from Broncos/Storm than if it were in the middle of Origin. Warriors and Knights badly-hit too.

Should move the finals to November to avoid disrupting the end of the regular season.

That`s kind of ridiculous frankly, watching the very best of the up-and-coming talent intermingled with established first graders playing in front of a huge crowd is not the same as watching NSW or Qld Cup. You tell me that those talented kids aren`t going to be out there busting their hump to: a) win b) impress.

That crowd wouldn’t have been huge if they knew who was playing

the clubs don’t value this game as there’s nothing to play for

but a week later the rematch will be on in the same ground most likely and that will be a cracker

Melbourne have rested even more players than Brisbane
