I believe TV executives call it the 'halo effect '
Olympics, World Cups... anything that is 'must see tv' has a knock on effect to other shows on the network. The voice, AFL...everything on ch7 is rating higher than it would normally.
MKR will kill that (although I’ll be watching 😅)

If Ch9 treat it right, the Pacific Tests will have decent ratings..

Doing some fact checking recently and a ANZAC Test series on a Friday night some years ago (mid 2010s?) got 1.4 Million..

Internationals have a fan base. The right people just have to get behind it…

Are you quite sure Fox Fumble ratings have bounced back? The figures look abysmal to me.

If "Origin fatigue" is the culprit, more likely to be "NRL fans talking down NRL during Origin" fatigue.

WC Soccer ratings were consistently higher in Sydney than Melbourne. Lot to unpack there. One factor must be that more big games were played in Sydney. Same way that Origin generally rates better in the host city.

All this talk of a bye round before the finals, it wouldn’t make a blind bit of difference. If Melbourne has a bye next week, given they’d still have zero to play for, they’d still be trotting out the same team they are now, as would Brisbane, Penrith, Warriors and Newcastle.
Chucking a bye round in doesn’t suddenly make these games anymore worthwhile, the clubs would still protect their stars rather than playing them in what they seem a meaningless game, given it has limited (or zero) impact on their final position.
They’ve got the wins in the bank and have earned themselves the right to rest players - it’s a reward for their efforts throughout the long season.

Wonder what they paid for it

Real shame Tonga isn’t involved

what about the women’s games ?
Wonder what the reason is for the lack of Tonga? We seriously need more internationals involving NZ, Samoa and Tonga. It’s criminal how much we missed that boat despite all the hype.

It was actually pretty entertaining. More like a SL game, more open, more attacking, less defensive. Gave the quick skillful players space to shine.
It`s where the game has to end up if we are going to survive, hopefully the fatigue that has been introduced into the game means that there will more and more room for the smaller players. Hopefully.
Great to see 64 000 viewers in Melbourne, interestingly with 80 000 for the pre-match. These are the figures that f-ball gets in Syd and Brissy on a good night. Shows that we can do it.
Added bonus of course it was the perfect night for the Storm to have two Victorians in the team. That young bloke Sua has the potential to be a crowd puller like that Walsh kid in Brisbane.

Can’t really compare FTA straight like that either. As is often mentioned in this thread the storm get terrible FTA coverage compared to the lions and swans. Basically if you’re a storm fan you watch on fox or kayo. That’s a big reason why the storm rate so well on those services. IMO if you could see the storm ratings in Melbourne on fox/kayo they would easily beat the lions and swans.

The reason I`ve read that Storm rate so well on those services is because they have long been considered a second Queenland therefore attract a lot of Queensland viewers. The viewers they get from Victoria are an added bonus hence their high PTV figures.

Bsaically, in that case why weren`t that 64 000 who tuned in last night watching on "those services". You can`t have it both ways. When numbers are poor they`re watching on Fox, on a good night they`re not, they`re watching FTA. I would say those viewers last night were largely unique Melburnian viewers that we need to be getting every week.

Can`t speak for the Loins but from what I`ve seen swans are mostly on Seven`s secondary channel in Sydney just like I believe the Storm are in Melbourne. Yet the swans average about 30k, Storm considerably less.

On the last point, the Swans are on FTA every week. Every NRL team (possibly barring the Broncos) would love that FTA exposure. Obviously Storm fans, other than really casual viewers, would be watching them on Pay/streaming services as that is the way they are going to see all of their games (like every other league supporter)

The Storm audience on FTA is pretty good considering the lack of exposure they get compared to what the fumblers have in league states.

Reece Walsh reminds me of Peaky Blinders actor Cillian Murphy and he could be the face of the NRL.
