So much contra

marvel stadium will have better wifi than the us navy

every afl player gets the latest iPhone
there is a difference between contra and in kind. One is work that adds value to your business, the other is 'free' advertising. Actual value really depends on what that works out to being and how much value it adds, and also what gets advertised. Im imagining all the ads Fox is currently running for Vegas isnt a great return on ticket sales for the NRL.

Interestingly last tv deal NRL had $24mill a year contra and AFL $16mill. Not sure I can say I saw $24mill of RL advertising on Fox and Nine?

Sounds like a load of bs to make the deal sound better

Telstra can value it what they want and show a bigger profit

cash is king

And they said most of the increase was paid for by foxsports

Sevens increases arent paid by Foxsports.

From 2017 - News Corp will pay the AFL an estimated $1.3 Billion, with Channel 7 paying $900 Million including 60 Million in contra (840m cash (140m pa), Telstra will pay $300 Million for Digital Rights.

From 2020 - AFL chief Gillon McLachlan said the revised five-year deal with Seven for 2020-2024 was for $730 million or an average of $146 million per year for free to air rights. Seven will receive a 19 per cent saving and a net benefit of $87 million over the remainder of the current deal through to the end of 2022 before the extended rights deal kicks in.

From 2023 - ?? This figure isnt really definable as the final Seven figures for 2023 and 2024 were never published as far as Im aware. Calculations using the 19% or the 87m havent generated a realistic figure, given the recent proportions of the relative deals - and savings/cost reductions arent necessarily equal to rights amounts due, as some of this was in production cost reductions - normally borne by Seven (ie. they stopped shipping commentators around the country during this deal)

From 2025 - Seven will pay a 14% increase on the 2024 rights in 2025; with indexation over the term this represents a 3.6% compound annual growth rate in rights fees across the period. Given we dont actually know what the 2023-24 figures are, we cant accurately give anything for this. Further rights arent the exact same amount each year, they tend to start low and end high and can also be affected by advance payments.

very solid ratings for a game between two regional clubs
Some interesting numbers in there, NRLW Titans/Eels 47 000 , no fumbleball-W game came close, in fact our two regional NRLW teams Cowboys/ Raiders outrated their big Melbourne club f-ball W teams. 79 000 for the Knights/Raiders mini was another standout. Rugby League at its` gladiatorial best that game.

Having worked for a charity I can tell you 'in kind' is just as valuable as cash if it is delivering something you need.

Yet the abc reported every fumble women’s game this morning without mentioning the nrlw. Whoddathunk?

That is thing, It is a dumb apples v Oranges comparison.

There is still 1 year of the reduced deal to go.

Although the $4.5b figure used would have the same rate for indexation?

I have been going off 21% included in that

300m Tesltra is for Marval comms.

Nothing to do with tradition broadcasting.

Telstra are not in the streaming app business anymore.

Those subs where migrated over to Kayo years ago.

So on traditional broadcasting it looks a little like this.

So essentially the NRL has already closed the gap, its just the AFL have added another line of revenue to muddy the waters on the whole comparison.

The AFL tried there best to get PVL fired with this move.

Just my thoughts.

There is a reason the NRL clubs did not say a word about PVL performance regarding the broadcast deal.

Its a little bit more than that - Telstra owns and operates the entire AFL and club website network, including replay and highlight rights, as well as streaming for AFLW.

You can say this until you are blue in the face, but its part of the AFLs announced media deals - and has been at every media deal announcement since 2002. As it was for the NRL until the change over in 2018. No one batted a f**king eye at it until then.

Telstra were buying media rights before there was an app and continue to do so after.

No they didnt. This has been a thing since 2002. Its not some new thing. Its something the NRL also did prior to assuming ownership of its own web network.

The reduced part of the deal ended in 2022.
The extended part of the deal was not reduced from 2023-2024, and had a alight increase built in.

Its documented history - there are any number of press conferences with vision of the Telstra CEO sitting alongside the AFL CEO, Newcorp reps and Seven execs to prove this point. It certainly is not some made up f**king bullshit you concoct for you to feel better about your media deals since Telstra dropped out of them.

Buckle up boys here we go

this will be

fascinating !

Not the thread for it, I wont be engaging this bullshit again.

Like i said, AFL adding extra lines of sponsorship to cover up the true picture in an attempt to get PVL fired.

NRL clubs new better, hence the silence from club land.
