Of course not everyone has to be an NRL fan.
Doesn't mean we should only try to appeal to one demographic though.

Of course but when you are taking players from this group. Trouble will follow, Not in all cases and they have been getting better

Mam has actually played the two card trick here. The "racism" and "mental health" cards. It makes a mockery of people who really suffer from mental health issues. As for the racism card, while it was dead wrong for Leniu to use those words, Mam really needs to grow a much thicker skin if he is still affected by a sledge used six months ago. It is what it is, an excuse for leniency.

His manager has though.....and that is basically an extension of him.

The Brisbane media, though smaller in number, is a bit of a beast when it comes to representing the Broncos. The other three Qld clubs have nowhere near the media thrust of the Broncos.

There have been two big Broncos stories over the last two months....the Walters sacking and Mam. With the Walters sacking, the media pretty much backed Walters to the hilt right up until two weeks before the end of the regular season. The tone over the media definitely changed towards Walters from that last fortnight onwards. The media definitely softened the ground for a Walters sacking. Im not saying sacking Walters was wrong, but the media certainly prepared the league world for it.

Now the Mam episode. Since Monday, all I have heard from Brisbane media land are Broncos management, players, ex-players singing from the same lyrics sheet about protecting Mam from the sack. This reason they are doing this is the Broncos absolutely want to keep him and are trying to soften public sentiment on Mam. If Jock Madden did this, I have no doubt he'd be looking for a new job.

NRL need to come over the top here and deregister Mam. Absolutely nothing to stop Man re-registering over a period of time, but the only appropriate punishment from a league standpoint is to put him out of the game.

Has he? I saw the personal challenges quote. What else? One would think Mam facing personal challenges is stating the obvious given what he's done, and of course the manager is going in to bat for him, it's literally his job.

Not saying it won't happen, but Mam hasn't played any cards yet that some people are frothing over.

Allegedly driving without a licence, under the influence of drugs and causing a motor vehicle collision that’s injured a young girl and other occupants is unacceptable by any measure.

That girl will likely have life long impacts due to the injury location and I fail to see how he keeps his contract. Sure, support the kid, he’s f**ked up and that behaviour has likely manifested for several reasons we’re not fully aware of but this warrants dismissal IMO.

If I was Maguire, I’d be looking to get a decision made quickly, regroup and rebuild without this being part of the 2025 narrative

This whole thing with high profile players begs the question: ‘what percentage of the game’s players are on the gear?’.
We‘ve had stories/suggestions/evidence of Bromwich, Smith & Munster, Ponga & Mann, Latrell, Addo-Carr and now Mam. Statistically speaking that’s a pretty good sample and all but 2 are internationals.

A lot….

Heck, you don’t have to look far to see how ingrained into society it is, let alone amongst the high profile athletes.

I think the number of incidents and known users that clubs are aware of would be more alarming.

I mean...not the discussion for a public forum but 18-30 year old lads, in a high performance environment, with well above average incomes and an awful lot of downtime.

There's an equation there

In the Penrith forum I wrote a while back that you'd have to be kidding yourself if you thought the squad was spending less on bags than a Kardashian in a Louis Vuitton store.

One of the resident sycophants wrote an essay essentially going full Mr Mackey and how no professional athlete would touch the stuff.

That was before our (at the time) two time premiership hooker posted on Instagram.

Where are the managers. Checking every one's licence status. Cause by the looks of things. A lot of player's can't. Or won't
Unbelievable

Or take f**king photos!

Absolutely agree with this.
For me, taking photos or at least being in a position to have your photo taken, whilst doing something that will be deemed as stupid and threaten your career, is the greater idioacy.
And so called ‘fans‘ and ‘mates’ who take photos and share them are just the lowest of the low. They‘re the ones who deserve to be named and shamed publicly. Aussies still hate dobber.

If you genuinely believe they aren’t getting on the gear on mad Monday you’re either in denial or incredibly naive.

Most players actually have the sense to not record of photograph themselves doing something they shouldn’t be. They also have the sense not to get behind the wheel in that state.

Surely mad Monday isn’t that hard, just send the players to the venue and leave them there. Arrange a courto to drive everyone home at the end, and let the media take photos as everyone arrives then they can kindly piss off and cover some real news.
