Yeah? Who did they have missing and who did Souths have missing?
The point is beating Panthers doesn’t mean shit anymore. They’re not the best team or the team to beat.

Each week beating them gets devalued. Roosters beat them as $11 outsiders. Storm beat them. Now Souths have. They’re conceding twice as many points as they used to. When Cowboys beat them next week it will make things a little less impressive.

Or maybe Panthers beat Cowboys. With how shit they are it doesn’t mean much to beat them. Says a hell of a lot if they lose though. Panthers just dont seem to put any effort in until required to when its already too late. They look sick of the week in week out grind of footy.

Sounds like you're talking about 2023-24 Souths. Only difference is we never won our GF just before, let alone 4 in a row.

Honestly if I were a Panthers fan they could lose by 30 every week and I'd still be smugging it up for a few more years to come

He was held anyway - ball-carrying arm touching the ground with opposition hands on him. That's held. No idea how the video ref passed that. Never should have got to the grounding.

Nah they slipped off him after that, I have no issue with the play on call.

It was absolutely a try but it's hilarious to see Penrith copping decisions that everyone else does now.

Slipping off is irrelevant if your ball-carrying arm is touching the ground. The moment a hand is laid on you, you are held.

Anyway it was the only decision they copped in that 2nd half, Klein rode them hard otherwise.

That's not true

I've seen tries where it would have been a double movement except the defenders slipped off and didn't maintain contact.

Dominc Young got one on ANZAC Day last year for example

This is the most depressive dribble I've heard. It's Rnd 4 ffs. Now put your big boy pants back on and stop sooking about the greatest team in the history of Rugby League Football losing a couple of games in the early season.

First look it appeared this way but from the other angle it looked like they both dropped off. But I didn't see too many replays.

That aside, there was nothing wrong with the put-down. Just another decision from the bunker to back the onfield decision, rather than the right decision. Annesley would probably say it was the correct call too, the dumbarse.

Big boy pants on means being realistic about where we are.

3 losses in a row. Two to sides so weak they weren’t even tipped to be top 8 sides. Our defence has been the worst it has been in over half a decade. The effort at starts of games is just incredibly low. No resilience at all. They warm into the games. But only after its too late.

i think we can turn it around. But even winning the next game doesn’t mean we have. We win it… well any team would have won. We lose and that’s an epic fail.

Yes it does. It's round 4 and they're the reigning 4-peat premiers in the salary cap era. It means shit. Especially for a much weakened side like Souths coming off a disastrous 2nd-last finish last year.

Penrith are still a top 4 side in my view as things stand while it is still March. They've had a shit start to the season which has seen an uncharacteristic drop in their usually miserally defence. They can fix that up and still be up there when the whips are cracking at the business end of the season.

As a Souths supporter, I most defintiely feel that beating Penrith, even if they are in a slump to start the year, means shit. Big shit. Enormous shit. Definitely our best win for ages. I'm basking in it. (The win, not the shit. just to be clear).

No excuses..we are the hunted and have acted like prey accordingly. Souths had a fantastic first half, its only round 4 but we need to pull our socks up once Cleary and Dyl return and go back to what we know. The comp has figured us out. The ball is in our court now..

Dylan Edwards & Nathan Cleary are elite.

You put them in that Panthers side last night and Souffs get pumped.

Souffs also get pumped with whoever they had out last night in the team too.

The riff were off in that first half but resumed control in the second half.

If that Leota try was awarded with 20mins to go I wouldn’t put it past the Panthers going on with it.

Just to answer my own question, Penrith had Edwards and Cleary missing - 2 star internationals amongst the best players in the game, it's true.

But Souths had Murray, both Mitchells, Graham, Aitken, Munro, Hubner & Schuster on the sidelines watchin on. That's 3 star internationals that are right up there too and also some decent depth players totalling 8 out of our top 30 that were unavailable.

Yeah, maybe. But as the old saying goes, if your grandmother had a dick, she'd be your grandfather.

Very much this. You can argue about which players were missing for both teams and what impact certain calls had on the game but the simple fact was Souths were definitely hungrier for the win.
Agreed. I was just responding to the earlier comment that Souths had supposedly beaten Penrith's NSW Cup side, which was of course, not supported by the old fact-o-roonies.
