5 day turn around for us. We're still missing plenty - no Murray, both Mitchells, AJ, Aitken, Munro, Hubner, Schuster.

Penrith will be missing Cleary and Edwards but will still be overwhelming favourites.

Can't remember the last time they lost 3 in a row. Probably have to go back to 2019.

Rabbitohs NRL squad for round four against Panthers this Thursday

South Sydney Rabbitohs
Tue 25 Mar 2025, 04:00 PM

The South Sydney Rabbitohs are pleased to announce their squad for round four against the Penrith Panthers to be played this Thursday 27 March at 8pm at Accor Stadium.
Rabbitohs Head Coach Wayne Bennett has named Alex Johnston to return on the wing for his first game since round 21 last season. Isaiah Tass has been named to play in the centres, replacing the injured Campbell Graham who sustained a lower limb injury to his leg in last week’s game against the Sharks.
Mikaele Ravalawa will play the 100th NRL game of his career this Thursday against the Panthers, having made his NRL debut for the Dragons against the Cowboys in round one, 2019.
Siliva Havili is set to play his 50th NRL game in South Sydney colours this Thursday since making his Rabbitohs first grade debut against the Broncos in round one, 2022.
The Rabbitohs will be paying tribute to Ray Martin AM at this game, who retired from the South Sydney Members District Rugby League Football Club (Member Co.) Board at its recent Annual General Meeting. Mr Martin’s support of the Club spans almost two decades in an official capacity, was a leading member of Group 14 who campaigned so hard for the Rabbitohs to be reinstated to the elite competition in Australia in the early 2000s, and has supported the Club for many more decades. Mr Martin was awarded Life Membership of the Rabbitohs in 2016.
The Rabbitohs are supporting Down Syndrome NSW and their Lots of Socks initiative this week following last week’s World Down Syndrome Day. Up to 100 people from Down Syndrome NSW will be joining the Rabbitohs at Accor Stadium on Thursday night, including social media superstars Sean and Marley!
Down Syndrome NSW representatives will also be attending the Rabbitohs’ captain’s run training session on Wednesday, where the South Sydney players will be wearing the Lots of Socks socks which raise money and awareness for Down Syndrome NSW as part of the Lots of Socks promotion. If you want to grab your own pair of Lots of Socks socks, please click here.

AJ is back baby! Campbell is missing though so Tass to right centre. They're the only changes in the side.

The level of urgency and intensity will hopefully also be a change that is much higher this week too.

If the squad plays with much greater ferocity - lets be honest, they were never there mentally against Up Up Malaka - this is a highly winnable game. Penrith's dominance is ending and Baldy Edwards has been a nemesis for seasons. His absence has to be a significant plus. Great to see Alex J return one can only hope he gets through this ok if he plays.
Further, we can only keep fingers crossed for CG. Do not want to see him endure another prolonged absence.
The pack could do with some more power and aggression.
Ataata could provide it in addition to moving KK back to 10 or 8. And why not put Weighton back at 6 and Walker at 7 then move The Humph to 9? Weighton too can punt very high and at present we are not getting enough from him.
The offense has been rather timid and at some stage has to be honed up.

Si, the INTENSITY has to be there for this. Walker and Weighton need to have strong performances in this or else its back to the drawing board. Is there any further prognosis on CG's blessure?

I think wholesale changes is not the answer after just one loss. We have more players due back in the next few weeks and hopefully Campbell's absence is only a short one. Often coaches pick the same losing side to give them the opportunity to make amends and get right what they got wrong the week before. Hoping that's the case this week of course.

Just listened to the presser Weidler said to Wayne you get Penrith at a good time with a few out he said they’d be saying that looking at us with our outs.

Also discussed the DCE thing for like 3-4mins which was a bit annoying etc Wayne said a club will get a great player just like Brisbane did Reynolds who has been good for them. Spoke about the game doing more to keep players at the one club dispensation etc.

Club is also in negotiations with Cody Wayne said we have younger players coming through and you need older heads. They asked about AJ speed he said well we will find out tomorrow night he said amazing what they can do with rehab. Said they monitor speeds etc and doesn’t look like AJ has lost much he’s quite the same. Also Souths want ti extend AJ too. Wayne said sometimes though when you keep these players they mightn’t be able to get as much money as time goes on but club is keen to keep them ie Cody and AJ.

Also confirmed at end Campbell is a calf be out a month. Oh gosh another calf injury shock me.

No mention of Aitken being back next week but Trell is.

Well Game Day is just about upon us in this round 4 clash back at home at Accor for our first home game there this year and it doesn’t get much tougher we come up against the 4 time in a row reigning premiers in the Panthers in Thursday Night Footy. Penrith have started the year a bit slower than normal they are 1 and 2 so they’ll be absolutely desperate tomorrow night to go 2 and 2. They have been off their game but I expect them to be right on here. Yes they’ve lost JFH and Luai but they always find guys who buy right into their systems and fit right in. I’m certain Ivan will have them right on tomorrow. Like most sides our record against Penrith of late has been so bad and I’m over these smug pricks from the foot of the mountains having the wood over us. Some of the arrogance from their players and fans etc we don’t forget it and it hurts. Well we have a good shot tomorrow night to get one back of them. For us we have had a solid start to the year the boys look fitter which is a positive and we have Uncle Wayne back which is big for us. We had a good first 2 weeks with tight wins which is so crucial in this comp win those close games. But last week we took a couple of steps backwards and underwhelmed at Shark Park. So we need to see some sort of a bounce back this week. Like most of us I’m not expecting to win here but you never know and if we can’t win let’s make Penrith really earn it and give them a big scare. But back at home on our turf I know it’s a Thursday Night but my fellow faithful let’s do all we can to get out to Accor tomorrow and give our boys a lift.

Looking at the Panthers they have quality all over the park we know that. Yes there is know Cleary, Edwards but that doesn’t matter. They have such great depth they have Laurie at the back, To’o and Alamoti and Tago we all know what they bring. Cole and young Toleau will play into their systems and up front they have a strong pack still in Leota, L. Smith, Yeo, Martin, Ipap, Henry etc so they can still tear sides apart. As we know they are so fit and well drilled and will not stop for the 80mins I mean they nearly beat Melbourne down there last week playing the last 74mins without Cleary. For us we lose Campbell which is a massive blow. We are without Trell, Campbell, Munro, Murray, Aitken and Hubner. Up front I’ve also heard the Tatola starting rumours if it’s true I hope Junior can step up but it’s a big ask as he’s underdone. Anyway we need our middles to step up last week was bad so we need Keppie, Tatola, Tallis, Moale, Liva to all lift. We need more from Keaon and Arrow as well much more. Then in the halves we need Cody to get into the game I hope he can. In the backs we need much more from Wighton he was poor last week we need him to lift big time. It’ll be great to see AJ back out there I wish him all the best AAAAJJJJJJJJ! We will need Rava and Tass to do their best on that edge as well s as a lot of traffic will come that way. At the back with Jye we know what we will get he won’t stop.

The keys to winning for us will be an 80 mins performance if our pack don’t aim up we are in strife. We also need to be disciplined complete high and stop the Penrith offloads. I want to see the boys have line speed a good kick chase etc we need to be enthusiastic cmon Souths time to dig deep. If we give silly penalties etc away Penrith will make you pay. In attack we need to be patient and build pressure. We just can’t afford really silly lapses in defence either.

Well welcome back to Accor Stadium for our first home game here of the 2025 season as we come up against the 4 time reigning premiers the Penrith Panthers. Great to see so much red and green in the stands this Thursday Night let’s do all we can to get right behind the boys for the full 80mins and be that 18th man as we chase our third win of the season. Let’s make sure we hear that Mighty South Sydney chant for the full 80mins here tonight.

Ok as we look down the tunnel here at the Rabbitohs home ground we can see the boys from the foot of the mountains making their way down the tunnel….. Rabbitohs Members Rabbitohs Supporters please give a warm South Sydney welcome to the Penrith Panthers………..
