2025 Rabbitohs Round 5 - Vs Roosters

And our forum melts down when Bird has to play centre, but I look at his game there.

Lats is going to run into their line, attract 3 defenders leaving gaps elsewhere. You will see him carry the ball high and spin. That’s what he used to do. So he’s wearing them down as well.

It going to be fascinating to see how Robbo tries to stop Lats. He invented Lats in the backline, so he must have some idea of remediation measures. Of all the games to try this on, it’s very bold from Wayne.

Anyway, good night everyone.

The local derby, another page in the book of feuds!

I have a feeling with Aitken back next week it might be Havili that misses out.

Anyway let’s worry about this week first. Great that we have competition for spots.

Rava has been a good addition for us too.

Sullivan thus far overall has been solid in the utility role as well.

Hold the ball we will be ok Friday we can’t drop lots of ball as the scum still have lots of quality to make us pay.

I’m hoping for 25k out there but not sure we get it. Cmon Souths faithful let’s get out there and support the boys in the best way possible.

I dont think havili will be dropped,he is subbing at prop, which we are short of, sulli will drop because we have had to use him in the wing and centres, were aikin is more a specialist and can play in the forwards as well

Yeah he’s impressive.

Hes only 23 and in that role, he’s unlikely to peak for a number of years.

Dodd is supposed to be on the market. I wonder what that is about?

Would make sense that Dodd is on the market. Unfortunately it's one of those things where Humphreys just seized the opportunity and he didn't. His NRL career is far from over but I think he's going to have to either shop himself around or wait for Humphreys to either get injured or dropped. I personally don't see either happening he takes excellent care of his body from all reports and he plays like his played 150+ games. The other thing is is Sullivan is a better utility than him and he's on an absolute bargain wage.

Humpty is a game changer.

I’ve been trying to draw attention to him here and there and I’m astonished to find that very few people outside of you guys understand what he brings.

I think he’s one of the best form players in the game atm

I was pretty happy with him in his first game in his first game with the dolphins when he kicked for 750 metres. It's something we've been lacking since Reynolds left and Cody Walker for all his skill with the ball in hand has 0 long kicking game. It's where in my opinion we failed majorly last year conceding penalties for kicks out on the full or 7 tackle sets for kicking it past the dead ball line. Forwards can't defend stupid mistakes like that forever.

Then I saw him kick the winning field goal against saints and I realised we have our future star right there. If we manage to let him slip we are a stupid stupid club.

And Cody succession plans need to be implemented.

His contribution to the game was that in full flight, his hands were quicker than the naked eye.

It was unnatural.

But I’m not sure these days.

I think having Gray on the bench this year helps with that succession plan because it means he's not pigeon holed into becoming solely a fullback and can be closer to the play making when he is on the field. And then next year, it appears Cody is likely to have 1 more year where I can see Gray taking the starting 6 spot over from him as 2026 progresses and Cody mentors him into being the regular starting 5/8 and Cody plays from the bench to see out his career (hopefully with a premiership :D ).

Cody still has his sleight of hand but he has missed his moving parts that he needs around him - particularly Latrell at fullback and AJ on the left wing.

“Sleight of hand”, I’m not getting all weak-kneed and flowery but that was beautifully expressed.

I’m going to adopt it and bring it into my forum vernacular when the need arises. If that’s ok.

I still don't understand why we would seek to make Jye the 5/8th. He has demonstrated that he is a top shelf fullback. Leave him there and look to someone else to take over from Cody when the time comes. I know that at 6 he is closer to the play, but at 1 he can roam anywhere on the field.

While I do not share quite the same opinion, I will defend to the hilt your right to express it. ;)
That's what discussion forums are all about.

I'm the same mate. I'm just trying to figure out why some of you are looking to move Jye out of the fullback role where he is absolutely killing it. I get that he wasn't planned to be our long term fullback but nobody knew just how good he would be in that role. You adjust your plans as you go as new information comes to hand.

I think we've discussed it to death actually. I don't seek to change your mind. Lets leave it as one of those issues that will have a variety of different opinions and so be it. Cheers.

Well I wondered if Billy Smith would come in for Toia and instead he comes in for Mark N who is out.
Interesting.
Wonder if the centres swap sides though?
