So,, if Sri Lanka beat aussie....

Yeah, was thinking that too

For all the "we was horrible" talk from the Aussies, our batting was poor too - McCullum and Williamson aside... been a lot of trash talking about Williamson, class above the rest today tbh... and Dan was simply superb with the ball...

Starc and Boult were exceptional...

The BS from Warne et al was laughable, first Johnson 150+ etc... he is not really any quicker than Boult and gun barrel straight... and the crap about Watson looking busy, confident etc - he was awful

Anyway, shame we weren't more convincing, but a win's a win

Faulkner a big addition, but some issues there too

Faulkner will mak

Kane Williamson... best Kiwi bat since Martin Crowe, and by some distance. Thank God he has a good head on his shoulders. Some of those dismissals were terrible. Ross Taylor's shot was dreadful and arrogant (he has had a terrible season except for 2-3 innings), Grant Elliott's shot was like he was on another planet and scared out of his mind, Daniel Vettori's shot belies the fact he has 300 odd ODIs and 110 odd test matches under his belt (it was like he was an 18 year old who'd never played), and I'm not sure why Southee and Milne just didn't jam their bats down (both appeared to be trying to drive for some reason). Kane Williamson has ice cold nerves. Surely he is in discussions for best bat in the world at the moment, behind Amla and De Villiers.

I think both sides were guilty of trying to put on a show over trying to build an innings

Australia must have read the papers (and this forum lol) how its a small ground and hence they thought they need to slog at everything. It was a bizzare tactic, trying to bash NZ out of the game - failed miserably

NZ for trying to get the runs ASAP when they didn't need to. Could have got the runs with 2-3 down at most and taken their time, instead almost lost the game

Not sure who takes more out of this game. You'd imagine both sides will change tact a bit given the same circumstances

With the way the boundaries were, the way bats are, and I personally thought the wicket was fine and the ball was coming on reasonably well, I don't understand why batsmen wouldn't take the Kane Williamson approach. Bat normally, time the ball, hit the gaps. His strike rate was fine, especially given he was trying to nurse the team home. I can understand one or two from each side having a genuine go like McCullum etc, but I think the likes of Taylor, Elliott, Vettori, Guptill, Clarke, Finch, Smith, Johnson should hang their heads in shame over the way they were dismissed. No respect for the game with the way they all got out. Johnson, surely this is his worst ever international performance. I can't imagine an international cricket having a worse performance than his.

Johnson's had many horrible performances is he back to being shit?

Taylor needs a kick up the arse ATM. And I have never liked Elliott am still hoping I am wrong, but that was Chis Martin-esque just awful

Gee what a game, batting from both sides was pretty laughable, Willamson, Haddin and B Mac showed there was nothing wrong with the pitch. Time to piss Watson the king plodder off, he started our decent into Shitness with his dreadful shot. Mitchell was back to being Shitchell.

hiney were you not listening to Warne, Watson was "busy" and the lineup much stronger with him at 3

I wondered what he was on about - Watson was scratchy as hell, I thought... only thing that made him look good was that Finch and Guptill were similar, and Maxwell, Marsh, Elliott and Taylor actually batted worse than him

That was one of the craziest games I've ever seen in my life.

I knew even with a target of 150 the Aussie attack was going to rip us up if we weren't careful.
Told my mates that Williamson was the only one who could defend properly, and I was right!
Goodness me wtf was that from Taylor, Elliott, Guptill, Anderson.

McCullum I can forgive, and that was a really ballsy effort to stay on esp with Johnson targeting that injured arm again. Only Ronchi (of the 'batsmen') got a really unplayable ball.

Fantastic game, Black Caps won't get such a slack batting performance from Australia next time.

Was at the pub with some mates so luckily for me i missed Warne's dribble, did he mention Starc's body language and how he single handedly turned his form around???

Mark Waugh delivered a real gem in the comm box, he was wondering if we'll see a bouncer that will carry all the way for six. Everyone in the room looked at each other with a wtf expression.

I had a laugh when I think it was Warnie who singled out Martin and Morrison as rubbish tail-enders when talking up Pat Cummins as batsman. What happened to McGrath?

I think Jeff Thomson might have already cleared the Eden Park boundary with a bouncer

Love the reports that Maxwell did a choking motion to the crowd right before Williamson hit the winning runs

From what I recall, he was very glowing in his praise at the end of the match.

I'm sure he said something that he'll claim the media took out of context by the middle of this week...

Elliot has been reasonable.. Ross Taylor could cost us a semi final. .

I wonder what the opinion on Williamson from Australia is now with his temperament at the crease. IMO he's the best New Zealand bat since Martin Crowe, and potentially he may be even better than him. He's in the top handful of international bat's in my view.

He is already a world class three, good field, and can even throw down and over or too.

Only going to get better.....

I expect him to take over from McCullum, when he hangs up the box.

He has some good young bowlers to work with, just need more batsmen.

I just hope they do not work him to death and burn him out.

Elliott has been good, my problem is he isn't actually very good - that dismissal was seriously awful, and he has a penchant for that.

Really concerned about Taylor - just seems to be drifting - could speculate on the Crowe situation, or perhaps ongoing disenchantment with the coach - either way, he has to show more discipline

Williamson is indeed world class, I have no doubt saying he's the best young batsman in world cricket - and already in the top 5-6 players in the world, I'd only definitely rate AB, Sanga and Amla as better (there are a few others at a similar level)
