What is wrong with it?

Khawaja or Smith replaces North. Fair enough.

Doherty was rubbish, so lets get O'Keefe or Hauritz (who has bowled well today) in the side.

Copeland, Harris and George are picked because they are in form. George has just got a 9 for at Adelaide TODAY.

no Hilfy

Smith is ear marked for the all rounders spot

George is not a test bowler just yet, Bollinger is much better

Hilfenhaus was our best in India and bowled without luck and in the first test he was better than most of our bad bunch to drop him would be a crime.

Steve Smith has to come in for Marcus North as a batsman who can bowl 15 odd overs and Harris or Bollinger have to come in for Johnson.

and it wouldn't surprise me if they made no changes

The only change will be the forced change for Clarke other wise it is nuffies away.

Hilfenhaus was poor this test, and has a gosh awful record in Adelaide (check his SS stats there, averages in the high 30's there). George knows the conditions and has just come off a 9for in the Shield match. More a horse for courses selection, if the match was in Perth Bollinger would be in my side.

There is no all-rounders spot, Smith is a batsman, so lets pick him as one. It is a bonus he can bowl, but he is not a front line leggie.

Notch and North should have a chat to Pedro, who uncharacteristically dropped himself from the nz v asut 4 nations final cause of bad form. I think all of Australia would all of a sudden have a new found respect for those two if they did that and decided to try and get some form in shield cricket

Put Australia first lads

never said he was, thats why I'd replace North with Smith

its Adelaide next so X and Smith could bowl well together

What irritates me the most is all these yes-men like Slater and Fleming going on about how it was the wickets fault no one was dismissed.

I would be dismayed if an Aussie attack went 1/500 on an AstroTurf wicket with a postage stamp sized outfield at Moore Park, let alone a 4th/5th day Gabba!

He was our best but took 6 wickets @ 43.5?

I like Hilf and he wouldn't be at the top of the list for the chop, but he doesn't take wickets. That cannot be accepted for much longer.

1. Katich
2. Watson
3. Ponting
4. Clarke
5. Khawaja
6. Haddin
7. Smith
8. O'Keefe
9. Harris
10. Hilfenhaus
11. Bollinger

Ya that's right I dropped the bloke that made 195 and the other took six wickets including a hat-trick. Toughest job was dropping North though. That guy has some serious potential.

He bowled without luck nothing went his way and Johnson cleaned up the same way Anderson bowled without luck and Finn stole his wickets.

Stats don't always tell the full story.

Smith or Usman at 6, don't mind either one really.

What part of Doherty's average of mid 50's in Adelaide suggest he'll bowl well in Adelaide. Give me Harris over Doherty. Our best spinner is Hauritz right now, I personally would rather pick 4 quicks and rely on Clarke/Katich/Smith as the spinners. They will be no worse than Doherty!

Hauritz is actually bowling rather well over in Perth right now.

The problem is that it happens to him all the time.

I wanted to have him with Doug and Harris for this test, but he has to start actually contributing wickets not just bowling good looking spells.

Agreed Timbo, embarrassing call from the selectors. Picked Doherty to get Pieterson and he smashed him!

Pulled off of a Cricket Australia update on facebook:

Doug Bollinger and Ryan Harris have been named in 13-man squad for 2nd Vodafone Ashes Test, which starts in Adelaide on Friday. SQUAD: Ponting, Clarke, Bollinger, Doherty, Haddin, Harris, M.Hussey, Hilfenhaus, Johnson, Katich, North, Siddle, Watson.

Looks like North has survived

Pietersen actually faced only 8 balls from Doherty, and scored a 4 and a 3 from them. Hardly smashing him?

I thought Doherty showed enough to get another go - he'll never be a world beater but could get a few wickets given reasonable conditions. However, I do think O'Keeffe is a better prospect as a spin bowler plus he can bat pretty well.

That is a strike rate of 133.33! Cooks s/r was 53.

Doherty is rubbish, typical Tasmanian spinners, Krejza now Doherty..when will they learn.

Hilfy's problem seems to be that while he makes the initial breakthrough more often than not, he does nothing against the middle and late order.

I think Kerry O'Keefe got it right on the radio this morning - our fast bowlers are really all first change bowlers and we lack a genuine opening bowler except Dougie.
