Where they are as a batting side was typyfied by Rogers missing the full toss..

Any bat worth anything would've put it out of the ground..

England won't stop batting until they are 550+ in front. Any other chase requiring less than that is a ridiculous fantasy. 2 - 0 and Phil Hughes will still get picked for game 3 so we're pretty f**ked there too.
Have you not noticed that their batting troubles have only been masked by our even bigger troubles? And their best two batsmen are already out. Getting through them relatively cheaply is a fairly realistic hope.

They will set us 450 plus

plenty of batting left for them, plenty of time

cant see us winning here nor going remotely close to regaining the ashes

Such an embarrassing batting capitulation. Sad part is that, apart from Warner, there's really no-one else you could possibly pick.

How depressing is this. I thought we had hit rock bottom in India. How wrong was I. Watson is a tard. Rogers wow how did you not get runs from that. Horrible shit from Hughes. Khawaja looked all at sea, he can't play spin and has technical issues. Clarke missed a straight one. Haddin went the slog and the tail did what they could. Sick of our batsmen getting themselves out instead of fighting hard.

The next three off the rank not on tour would be Doolan, Bailey and Voges.

Hardly confidence enspiring stuff.

The pitch is dry. Perhaps a little too dry? Ie overcooked from the London heatwave? Thats the only explanation to why no batsman (except for Ian bell) has really cashed in in this test match

The Australian innings looked strange and dreadful last night. Some t20 esque dismissals as described by the tms commentary team

Well, that's the negative effect T20 has had on our test side. Batting techniques at Test level have just gone right out of the window. The innings reminded me a lot of our abysmal failure on Boxing Day 2010.

So was that the worst display of batting in a single day of Ashes cricket ever?

Both sides deserve a serious glove slap.

Since the first Ashes series I watched as a 10yr old in 1997 and from an AUSTRALIAN perspective, Boxing Day 2010 is hands down our worst ever batting performance in a day of an Ashes series. We really were at our lowest ebb in that series (the only series we've ever lost 3 tests by an innings!) since the dark days of the 1984-89, and that day was really the straw that broke the camels back and time for Ponting to move on as captain (he should've also moved on completely after the World Cup the following year). We batted so badly that you guys already had a 1st innings lead over us by the end of that first day. Not even having Warne, McGrath, and Lillee in the peak of their careers that day could've bailed us out with the ball, when you only have 98 runs to work with in the 1st innings.

As much as I'd love to give England credit for bowling well that day, I can't because you'll find that day the majority of our wickets were due to the amateur "smash and bash" T20 shots and techniques we've been accustomed to seeing since T20 cricket eroded our shores over the past few years.

Khawaja just need to bat time. He is so good at it, who cares if he isn't searching for a single every ball. He isn't Mike Hussey, let him play his natural game.

Hughes needs to do the reverse, he isn't a defensive batsmen. He like to have a slash and dash and let him, but try to instill in him a knowing sense of what balls to do it with.

Rogers is at his best when scoring and picking off singles and 2's. let him take his time, it isn't a race. He had the capacity to bat like Langer or Katich, he isn't a strong hitter of the ball so let him push the ball around and frequently change over strike.

Clarke is at his best when he is aggressive. But due to our collapses, I think he is caught in 2 minds.. One is stay in and build an innings, the other is attack and score quick. If our top order can conjurer up some decent runs before he enters the crease, he'll be all the better.

Smith is similar to Clarke albeit less skilled.

Used to be said that Mark Waugh underperformed for his outstanding talent, but his record was infinitely better than Watson's.

Watson doesn't have the natural ability Mark Waugh had. Not in the same class by a mile. Both equally waste/d what they did have though (as did David Gower).

He should have been better though. Was always content getting to 100. Never really put his head down and scored a massive one.

Too much negativity you guys. Its not time to push the panic button yet.

I was impressed with how we dragged the poms down to our level in the final session. All 3 bastmen out to poor shots. If we can maintain that and restrict their lead to say 450, I'm confident Agar and Pattinson can get some runs and we'll only lose by about 300.

Then we'll only be 2-0 down with 3 games still to play. Game on....

 one of the funniest posts here

People say the strangest things. Mark Waugh scored over 8000 test runs with 20 centuries. Hardly a waste of talent.
And averaged over 40.

For mere mortals that is fantastic. But M Waugh had the talent to average well into the 50s. He could have had 30 centuries and he should have had many more big tons. That's how good he was.

Im listening to the details for the Australia A Match

The bowlers seem to be doing well, Fawad Ahmed can replace Agar (experience), Cummins and Hazelwood are doing well, but can they displace Pattinson, Siddle, Starc or Harris?

However the problem is the Batsmen! Can anyone find anyone out of the Australia A squad playing in Zimbabwe which will shore up the Australian batting?

What can David Warner offer to the top 6? Unfortunately he cant fight Joe Root in the boxing ring!
