i dont even know why they are playing in auckland. if they want games they need to get a decent (and decent sized) ground. such a big city, surely they can find a decent ground which can hold 8k+ and is a full sized ground. if not, take it somewhere which can.

as for the game, 300+ and a close chase. its been even so far so on the fence.

Speaking of Eden Park (and the kiwis on here can probably shed some light on this) weren't there plans to redevelop Eden Park No 2(outer oval) to international standard and use that as a cricket only venue?

I think they scrapped those plans. Everyone's focussed on the rugby world cup here; the eden park board are very 'rugby-centric'. Cricket be damned. Speaking of rugby, the whole country is worried about whether we are going to have the infrastructure right to host this thing. If it's a shambles there will be civil war over here. I'm a leaguie and rugby bores me senseless but most kiwi's treat rugby like a religion...it's like going to church for them: you do it & you never say a bad word about it, you keep the faith & don't ever question.

I'm going to the game and didn't realise until today (luckily) that it started at 12.

It's a pretty weird time. No idea why it isn't a day nighter. The sun will be coming down and getting in the batsmen's eyes right at the death of the game.

Aussies looking to break a 5 game losing streak in ODI's on NZ soil.
I'd say they are a chance of avoiding making it a half dozen game losing streak too, but they need to learn from past mistakes. Firstly, they need to become a more ruthless side; when the foot is on the oppositions throat, don't let it off. Secondly, they need the confidence to bowl Nathan Hauritz for 10 overs against the Kiwi's. He hardly bowled in Napier and if you pick a guy, you should back him to succeed rather than go in with the pre-concieved notion that the NZ batsmen will smash the living daylights out of him. Lastly, the captain needs to take charge and lead from the front; if a fifty or century is in the offing, then really nail it home. That'll give the troops the belief that they can compete with the Kiwi's.
