Lol Haddin. Has been such an overated player. Average to below average keeper and streaky with the bat who often gets out in ridiculous fashion when needed to knuckle down.

Over rated? Who calls Haddin world best keeper?

Yet to see anyone claim he is an equal to Gilchrist.

The only comments I see is best option for oz, to which many aussie argue.

I don't think he is highly rated.

There is just no obvious replacement standing to be counted.

Shows me that a late deceleration could have led to Australia not being in a position to win the game with India looking to pad off for 2 days.

If they went into the sheds today with India 3 for, I reckon it was game over.

Rubbish. There's 180 overs left in the game.

Oh f**k off Haddin. Gilchrist dropped a catch like that and it's what caused him to retire. You do the same dickhead.

That's why I said in an earlier post that Haddin is the one in the top 7 batting lineup that I have doubts over whether or not he'll be there in next year's Ashes series. Not only has he not been firing with the bat, but his wicketkeeping has been absolutely abysmal. That Ghambir drop catch was as easy as it gets for a wicketkeeper, but that's not the only "easy" catch he has butchered.

In the likewise manner that Pattinson, Hilfenhaus, Siddle et al. have stepped up in the bowling department and will most likely keep Johnson out, either Wade or Paine is going to have to step up to put the pressure on Haddin because at 34, Haddin ain't going to get better.

Regarding Gilchrist, the beginning of Gilchrist's decline was the 2005 Ashes, and he was younger than Haddin (33 at the time). He had 15 or so dropped catches in that series, not to mention that Warne had a better batting average than him. He was NEVER the same test batsman and wicketkeeper after that series (although he still kept doing well in the ODIs). And yes, when he started dropping Brad Haddin-like sitters in his final series vs India, he knew that he was a shadow of his former self (compared to the screamers he took in his 3rd test vs Pakistan at the WACA) and unfortunately, like Matthew Hayden, will be remembered for stayed on for one year too long (contrary to a lot of "cricket experts" on this forum, who suggested he should've stayed on to get to 100 tests. Haydos did that when he knew he was no longer test standard, and we all know what happened to him...). Should've retired after the glorious innings in the 2007 WC Final.

Not currently he isn't rated, because he is rubbish. But in years gone by he has been, and his keeping has always been pretty poor.

undertaker, I'd love to know what more you reckon Wade has to do? Killing it with the bat and keeping very tidily. Would clearly improve the side. Nevill would also be an improvement.

A wheelie bin would be an improvement on Haddin. It is beyond a joke now. That drop could really hurt us in this match.

Wade is deserving of the chance, good keeper not great and in superb batting form. Also loves a sledge.

Its a great moment really, to score 300 at the SCG in front of his home crowd is truly amazing.

Well done Clarkey.

Hyperbole aside (first player picked and captain), it's true. He's a better batsmen/wicketkeeper than any of the batsmen/wicketkeepers we've got...except the batsmen/wicketkeeper who doesn't want to keep wickets.

I would hate to hear so many people come out and say "oh he couldve battered on and broke Lara's record" instead of "Well done Clarke, a top innings"

At the end of the day, Clarke made his decision and it might even be the right one.

You said we should just keep batting and batting.

Clarke has declared to win the match and not played the ultra conservative lets ensure a draw deceleration.

I'm a massive Clarke fan and always have been. It was a mistake not to go on, but that doesn't take anything away from how sublime the innings was. Absolutely top shelf.

I feel that the record for highest score in a test isn't such a big thing for Australians as it is for other teams. Bradman's 334 is probably more revered as he did it so quickly and it added to his legendary status. When Hayden scored 380 it was a bit ho hum as it was against Zimbabwe.

When Lara broke Sobers record it was massive because it had been held for so long, when he scored 400 it was seen as going back to it's rightful place.
