Clarke out now.

This is an absolute shit of a pitch to bat on, makes for good cricket though!

Agreed. Great for a novelty, but certainly a poor pitch.

Having said that, like I said from over 1, as long as it stays consistent then there can't be too many complaints.

Well this morning saved Hughes' career. Not only because his competitors have done just as badly in this series, but because he's going to get a decent dig in the 2nd innings.

Hughes career was not in doubt... but he certainly should be dropped from the test team for some time... seriously he's Chris Martin's bitch... and the only player for whom the outcome with bat in had is as certain as it is for Chris Martin...

he can come back, Hayden, Dean Jones (destroyed by Hadlee), Damien Martyn (by Fleming and Bond), Graeme Smith (by Fleming et al) all did... the one that didn't was Hilditch (courtesy of Hadlee).... Hughes will be back, but the big worry is the sameness of the dismissals (like Hilditch)...

How about we not do that thing where we remember what I say when I'm wrong...

Sorry for thinking this pitch will end up like every other Aussie pitch of the last 10 years when journos have called it batting hell before the first day. Every other pitch lasted for half a day and died. This one hasn't.

I was wrong but I'm glad I was wrong. Nice to see a pitch that is different to all the others.

Calling it now, Hughes to save the test for us.

I sound like a bloody broken record but why should he be dropped and Khawaja kept in the team when Khawaja has averaged less since they've both been in the team.

Hughes has "only" scored a century and an 88 (which was equivalent to a century in the circumstances) in recent times. Well guess what, that's more than Khawaja, more than Ponting.

And Hughes' opening partner has done equally as badly in this series. Which tells you maybe it's the pitchs fault.

Hughes is the incumbent, now that the others have failed if he gets runs in the 2nd innings or the tour match, he'll be there on Boxing day on a more predictable pitch against bowlers he'll be more suited for.

Hussey scored runs in Sri Lanka (a bit like Hughes), since then he's done less than Hughes. Another player who shouldn't be picked before Hughes.

When everyone is fully fit there should only be 2 batsmen picked before Hughes, and thats Clarke and Watson. If Hughes' spot is dicey, then so is Husseys, and certainly so is Pontings/Khawajas/Warners spots.
