2nd Test - Australia v New Zealand Hobart Dec 9 - Dec 13 2011

I'm interested to know what the relevance of a batsman playing a
shot or not has to do with where the ball pitches?

If it pitches outside leg it's not out either way. If it pitches outside off it can still be out whether the batsman plays a shot or not. Where it hits the pad is the crucial factor.

Top win for NZ and a great game. I haven't been that into a match in a long time. I can't believe Bracewell wasn't motm; I voted for him. Clarke, Ponting, Hussey, Haddin disgraceful from our most experienced batsmen. Siddle's terrible, but you can't blame him for the loss, that lies with the batsmen. Superb fro
Warner; I'll admit I wanted him to spend more time for NSW to prove himself, but he's proved himself now at the highest level.

LOL I know, please see JJ's sig for clarification ;-)

As long as you hitting them well in the nets thats all that matters, gotta laugh Healy brought that ridiculous line out again, Ricks been hitting them well in the nets he just has to reproduce his net form  How many years will we continue to hear that bullshit line. Changes must be made, the sooner we tap Ponting and Hussey and Haddin the sooner we can move on with a young side for the future. Dropping Khwaja is a step backwards, we need to build for the next Ashes tour they won't be there so why should they be perserved with now??? And it's not like they are offering the team much anyway.

I don't think dropping Uzi is a step backwards, I think it's just a step along his journey. Hayden, Waugh, Clarke, etc etc etc were all dropped early in their careers, to go back and work on the small aspects of their game that get found out at Test level. I think Hughes and Uzi will benefit hugely from going back to NSW and working on their issues away from the pressure of the international side, and I think they will come back in a season or so much better for the experience and ready to take their game to the next level.

Khawaja is still a good batsman, his underperforming thusfar takes nothing away from that, but he might need to go back to shield cricket for a little while.

Agree, at least Marsh has been successful at the top level. I don't see anything special about Khawaja.

Yeah but you know nothing about cricket, we already know that LA Locky.

Khawaja will come good, but he has shown he needs to go away and work on things before he'll truly be ready

lol Khawaja...another future star of australian cricket who was talked up hilariously on this forum.
Like Kane Williamson?

He's stuck between first class and test cricket. He goes to shield and scores centuries but cant quite translate that to test runs. Alot to like about him and his temprement but he gets bogged down, gotta work on ticking the singles over. (oh but there is no shield cricket till after the Indian series, cheers CA!)

You're a f**king idiot who has at various times claimed to be moving to LA, have a fashion bullshit in Milan, have a kid, a wife, a boyfriend/girlfriend, be male and female, straight and gay, so go f**k yourself.

Not to mention the Marsh has had all of three innings and cant stay fit for any extended period.

I think Uzi given an extended run will do well, just not sure picking Ponting and to a lesser extent Hussey does for the future of Australian cricket. We lost to NZ ffs!! We can't get much lower than this, we may as well build for the future throwing Cummins and Pattinson in was the right move and sticking with Uzi,Warner for this summer might prove winner. Honestly Ponting should have left after the WC, i think Clarke has done a pretty good job and having the former skipper around wouldn't have helped. Kat was moved on and was preforming far better than Huss and Ponting. Time for some big decisions to be made the longer we hang on to the past the longer it will take to get back to the top of world cricket.

You're right. He's no Jesse Ryder or Kane Williamson

Ian Smith talked him up something fierce in the first test

another Kiwi who couldn't hack test cricket v the mighty Aus

similar to Shane Bond who averaged 96.33 bowling v Aus in tests

I agree Ponting is going nowhere, but I think if you're going to drop him, as TT was discussing earlier, then Cowan is the man to get a look in at the moment. As it stands I would keep Ponting for India...I think his experience will be very handy. I wouldn't keep him past the summer though, which gives Uzi a half shield season to work on his issues. I have no issue with bringing these kids in and out of the side, I think it's the best way to do it. Hughes and Uzi certainly have issues with their game that continued exposure to test cricket is only going to exacerbate IMO. Being around the team is great, but we're helping no one by asking them to work out the kinks under the pressure of test match cricket

It would be great to have khawaja serve an apprenticeship at 6. Ponting got that luxury, north played a thousand tests for no runs there and now hussey is down there. Number 3 is the key spot in the order. To expect a young player to shine there immediately is grossly unfair. Fir the good of the team hussey should bat 3 and khawaja 6. If he fails at 6 then goodbye.

this is because if the stoopid BBL. I think Khawaja needs to gain some confidence in test cricket, I am not sure if there is anything missing from his game aside from that, because he is definitely test standard, perhaps he just needs to believe it. Playing New Zealand should have helped him, but it didn't. I think he just needs someone to have words with him. I believe that Khawaja could really be something special if he can sort out whatever demons are standing in his way.

Kallis had a slow start to his batting career beginning his career at 6 and 3 (played a couple of matches at six before moving to 3 for a long time) and he is now statistically the best batsman in the world. I'm not saying Khawaja will grow up to be anything like Kallis, just that he is in good company.
