He batted higher than 8 once in 39 internationals.

He was never picked as an all rounder. Not sure where that idea came from in the OP
I do remember reading he got the spot ahead of Haze because of his ability to score lower order runs. He got 30 odd if I remember to bad his bowling wasn’t close to test standard.

Bevan batted at 7 because we had a Captain not capable of scoring runs. And then Bevan was dropped never to return while that fat f**k continued to Derp it up.

Scored 4000 runs in one test on the biggest road in the history of the game and everyone forgot he was carried for over two years.
Good bloke, though.

Yeah but that's not to say he was picked as an all rounder. Just that the selectors figured the two bowlers were pretty equal (which we know is laughable) and picked the dude more likely to score runs at 8 or 9.

Plus that deck was a road IIRC.

Hastings getting a baggy green was then retconned by the selectors as them wanting someone who was a genuine outswing bowler against a side full of right handers. lol.

Johnson and Hastings both also baulked at the new ball, which led to one of the most farcical situations I've ever seen in a test match: Shane Watson opening the bowling in a side that contained three 'specialist' seamers picked in front of him.

If Patterson is dropped I’m going to be very pissed. If it’s for Stoinis I’m going to be doubly pissed. Stoinis bowling record is rubbish in shield cricket, Labuschagne provides the 5th bowling option anyway.

Anyway Stoinis won’t carry the drinks if he’s not selected, it’ll be right back to BBL. there’s two other squad members anyway.
Head has been ridiculously underbowled this summer as well. Not a top liner by any means but he spins it the other way to Lyon and would be the type to pick up the odd wicket.

You just know they’ll dump Patterson for big rig Marcus.

The selectors need to sign off the summer with one final glorious f**k up.

Heard peter psaltist talking about sobers as captain winning the toss a lot. How he had a great pace attack to let loose. Thought Clive Lloyd captained in 75-6?

Hope that there are a few blades of green grass on the pitch on Friday

It will take the flattest of pitches in Canberra for Marcus Stoinis to make his Test debut this week as Australia aim to close out their first series victory in any format since the ball tampering scandal last year.

It's been pretty f**king hot....over 35 most days for like all of January, and f**k all humidity. Late-season pitches all over Canberra are usually pretty dry

That said we've had a lot of storms too. Got 20mm in half an hour at my place last Wednesday. And thre's been a bit of rain this week at times. Interesting to see what the wicket is like...the fear is it'll be a bit of a road thanks to the heat lately, but it does often spin later on.

that article is nothing more than an opinion space filler,

there is nothing in the article to substantiate the claim that Stoinis may start
