I think we've fallen into the trap of playing to England's tempo, although we've ended up stuck in no man's land. It's gotta be tough mentally to see them score 435 in 3 and a half sessions and then realise it's going to take you 5 sessions of quality batting at a standard 3rpo to match them. We've wanted to cut some corners and are paying the price.

Lol at two top 5 wickets reverse sweeping Leach. A standard shot these days but it's one you really don't need to play in these circumstances, you're increasing the risk of Leach dramatically by choosing to do so.
yep, and that's on the leadership - I have serious problems with Larsen and Stead... Southee as captain, I am not sure about

But pretty gutless overall

How ridiculous do Latham and Nicholls look now. Out reverse sweeping to Leach, while Southee is just pumping him with proper shots lol.

We’re still f**ked and I’m bemused by our test cricket…. But we had the better of the day, so that’s something

Surely Henry Nicholls now needs to go somewhere else to find some runs

Big fight back here. Another indictment for enforcing the follow on in modern day test cricket.

Bazball can't trump good test cricket - sadly we only found our feet late... whatever we set they'll chase on a good deck, so no need to worry about declaring, if we get deep enough just see what pressure does - the endless positivity is cracking a bit in the field...

McCullum and Stokes were always going to enforce the follow on, and will probably still win - but the question is will a draw or a loss (incredibly unlikely) force some learning, or will they just plough on?

horses for courses though, when your two leading bowlers are middle aged, and your all-rounder seems unable to bowl much, maybe you shouldn't assume that a (supposedly) good test lineup will capitulate again... about time we fought back, and I think signs for the Ashes that Straya just needs to focus on good test cricket, rather getting sucked into battles for run rate bragging points

41 overs left in the last session today

NZ 5/423 - lead 197

Hopefully kiwis bat all through this last session , and a bit in the morning if they can

Poms you would think will try and run down whatever is presented, after all they want to play attacking cricket

yup, no need to set a target - they'll chase no matter what

They've still dictated 6.5 out of 7.5 days in the series so far. I don't see anything here to force a rethink - but it should raise some alarm bells about how quality teams can stand up to bazball and play their own game with success. England's saving grace is there aren't many good test teams around at the moment, and they've already had success against the best in India.
