Bit hard for Taylor to rein it back in after going so well, been great to watch as well. Agree with Beads Haurie has been underbowled.

Guptill goes early...and this probably evens the game up.

NZ 4/143 at lunch, trailing by 88...and our best three best batsmen yet to be dismissed.

Next session is very important. The match has advanced very quickly, and NZ must get a lead...and preferably a good one.

Good breakthrough from Harris just before lunch. Pretty evenly poised match IMO. Kiwis should get a lead though.

the main problem with his batting is he only has 2 gears... its either prod, poke & run someone out... or its T20 mode...

its frustrating because the guy has the talent to be one of our greatest. but he just doesn't have the mental application to push him further.

people put Ryder in a similar box... but i disagree... his 200 last year against India proved to me that the bloke can apply himself on the pitch... he just needs to mature off the pitch.

if we could get a middle ground for both of them NZ would be in a wonderful position.

i saw an interview with Vettori this week... about his 100 tests... one question was why he thinks we can produce the amazing poly athletes for Rugby & Rugby Union and we cant produce them in cricket.

he said hes starting to see them come through... Ryder & Taylor being the start of it... he said there some of the most skillfull players hes ever seen... so hes hoping the future will be bright for NZ cricket when they really start to come through

Might have given chances but scoring a 80 ball 100 and the quickest ever by a Kiwi is impressive.

Ah great so now we have one spinner that goes for 200, another that goes at 8 an over and now one that concedes 25 runs in an over.

Drinks: NZ 6/222, trail by 9 runs with 4 wickets in hand

Taylor 129* from 95 balls. Another even half-session, Australia will be happy to have taken Vettori and McCullum.

Taylor finally goes. NZ barely in the lead. Without his innings, I'd have no idea where we'd be. Just can't have our tail starting at No. 8.

NZ lead by 32, but Australia has a great chance to impose themselves on the match in the final session tonight.

Once again, our failure to bat time shows through...could only last 63.3 overs.

pretty even I'd say

all hinges on how the pitch plays on day 5 as to how handy that little lead may be

Is ritalin performance inhancing? If not then we need a dozen cases.

deficit wiped off for the loss of no wickets and batsmen offered the light and took it

Agreed, appalling selecting...

Our main problem is almost ALWAYS lack of runs... Vetorri is admirable, but not a test #6 by any stretch... and then we have three # 10s and Chris Martin, ridiculous. If they were adamant that they weren't going to play Williamson, then they should have played Ingram as well, or selected someone like Flynn to bat 6... Just plain stupid... Patel is a mediocre spinner who's poor with the bat - Nathan McCullum would have been a much better selection...

anyway, Aust won't roll over this innings, but we will in our second - 2-0
