Boom. All over. Boult and Southee rip the tail apart with the new ball. Southee 8 wickets for the test, Boult 7. Southee finally seems to be coming of age and playing to his potential. Boult, left armer of decent pace who gets late swing. Beginning of a dangerous new ball pair?

With Bracewell (who hasn't been at his best) I think they form an incredibly promising young pace attack...

Really good win, I am pleased... just worried that it papers over the obvious problems - opener, number 6, keeper and spinner...

There's no answer to the spinner issue - Vetorri in the short term, and I am not sure what Nethula did wrong but not sure he's the answer - Astle was mixed.

At #6, or 5 Ryder is the answer, but he's also likely to be disruptive... Brownlie in certain conditions, but patently not others... keeper, I think Watling is tidy enough, van Wyk really only for me if we have a #6, and Vetorri - then he can bat 8, where his silly inventive style might be useful... opener - who knows, Guptill has too many holes, and at the end of the day I am not sure that either of he or McCullum are best suited there...

buit at least they played better, and Taylor showed some real mettle, and Williamson will become a very good test player, I have never doubted that

Still some work to do.....

Short a batter or two and a spinner, young quicks will mature well.

But a win is a win, enjoy.

Hakas yep... ticker-tape parades, NZ Order of Merits all around, parking tickets shredded and a crate of Tui for all. Its good to finally see a NZ left arm quick hit 140ks enough and have late late swing. I don't think Southee and Boult's performances on docile tracks can be commended enough. Sounds like Astle gives it a fair rip but lacks enough accuracy.

Is Ryder going on the tour of South Africa, or is he still out of considerations? His form for Wellington has been pleasing and there's no doubt in my mind in terms of talent he's easily in the top 4 for NZ. He's a fantastic timer of the ball.

Apparently it's up to Ryder when he makes himself available for selection. I would say the England tour at home in February would be the more likely scenario for his return.
