3rd Ashes Test: Australia v England @ MCG Dec 26-30, 2021

mmm Stokes should have been out LBW before that - plumb as - Trouble was the Aussies used up all their referrals and the run out they missed when Lyon dropped the ball.

England would need a minimum of 200 from here on - 150 to win would not be easy on this pitch as you say- Not sure CA would be happy if the game was over in less than 3 days though
Absolutely them coming back from here would require some luck. But tests have been won from worse positions. For a player as good as Root to have never scored a hundred here is absurd. He is well over due. If he can get that ton and those other 3 I mentioned contribute 30s or 40s around him, it's on.

Why did no one mention this at the time, or in the post match anslysis?
2019 Ashes they did - Stokes was clearly out but the Aussies used all their reviews -wasting a last one on a Leach LBW appeal when it was clearly going over the top of the stumps/

England seem to get the rub of the Green in England - earlier the controversial draw against NZ in the drawn ODI World Cup Final

If/when England lose this, they go home imo

they’ll just blame Covid like india did when they were over there.

I am not ashamed to say that I would not knock back an opportunity to be at Pat Cummins members end and face a couple of balls.
It’s pretty much your duty as an Australian to smoke it like it’s your job if the Aussie captain flops it out in your face.

for Michael Clarke it would have been a chore. For Pat Cummins it would be an absolute privilege.

Anyone else reckon they intentionally left a shitload of grass on the pitch to avoid the calamity of a few seasons ago when it ended up playing like one of those Indian decks where it barely gets through the keeper?

They may have overdone it as it's looking likely this game will struggle to get to a 4th day, entertaining to watch though

Absolutely. But this is much better than that. England have had their chances. They’ve got some serious work to do tomorrow but I reckon anything over 150 will be a challenge.

this pitch has steepling bounce off a good length, hence there only being about 15 runs scored down the ground.

I dont mind nothing wrong with a 3 day test every now and then.

Batsman get it easy most of the time anyway

Talking as a visitor, it has a lot going for it imo, but I like Sydney better
I haven't lived in Sydney since the late 80s but the level of unprovoked violence in Melbourne by ice fuelled dickheads is incredible.

In the five years I have had the misfortune of living in the sewer known as Melbourne, I had merkins asking for money and smokes only

You surely wouldn’t think this rabble is going to score 200 runs tommorow

Boxing Day Test to continue as scheduled at the MCG after England and Australian players test negative ahead of day three

12 of the England Squad did test positive for terminal baldness though.

all England need to do is win the 10min battles

After 300 mins...

and before you know it, the commentators will be comparing the Dravid / VVS heroics in Chennai, 20 years ago
