I have no statistics on it but I'd wager that junior participation would be dropping by the year. Schools have dropped it from their school sport roster because no kids want to play the game.
Depends on the year level.

We introduced an interschool fun comp for 11-12 year olds last year and continued this year and was as popular as any sport. Rules were like indoor cricket except everyone bowled one over and they had a couple of games and they used a soft ball so didnt need protection.

Before that there was nothing.

Certainly isnt like when I was a kid where you stood out on the field all afternoon.

My own kids dont even want to play cricket in the backyard. They'd rather their gadgets.

I'm 5km from the G. It's just started chucking it down.

They'll get out there at some point, the only question is will it be small enough for Garry and Sir Pat to see it off.

India will be livid but they partially have themselves to blame, can't believe I'm agreeing with Warnie but they should have sent Jadeja and Pant up the order to have a happy tonk then get back out there. They knew rain was on the cards.

Which is crazy given the dollars a half decent player can get.

*sighs*

And just by the kids I know at school, no one is interested in test cricket.

Big Bash yes.

At the same age I was buying and filling in the ABC cricket book watching tests and the teachers would even show tests in the classroom.

They could have enforced the follow on too. May have been wrapped up yesterday.

Seems the are not even playing that form of cricket.

Probably average 50 on the xbox and only play it for the achievements points.

I've got two words for ya:

Matthew.

Renshaw.

He has proved his ability, at Testevek, to grind out tough runs.

He's a natural Test opener, but the selectors prefer Bancroft and Harris.

And Finch.

f**k Cricket Australia.

But hey - at least the Mashed brothers, Potato, and Spud, will remain in the team until they retire...
Renshaw should have been persevered with as long as his confidence was ok, imagine if they hadn't persevered with Steve Waugh... unbelievable that Finch has that spot IMO

Yeah the ol Kolkata Effect....

It's become silly, the follow-on is a *huge* advantage and as you say India probably would have had it done and dusted by now.

But instead they brought stonewalling and rain in the equation and gave Patto a chance to rip through them and pick up some confidence. VVS and Dravid aren't going to turn up in this batting line-up ffs.

In my area, they are barely interested in that. Summer afl and touch footy get bigger participation numbers school sport wise

Cummins would be filthy, he knows his about to single-handedly win the test and the series and Melbourne dishes up their shitty fkn weather.

I know!

I can't believe he was dropped!

Even in average form, he is a far superior option to anyone else we have.

At the very least, Renshaw will fight hard for his wicket.

Shaun I can tentatively understand; he has an uncanny ability to pull a fine innings out of his arse and win a match, which has essentially kept his career alive.

But Mitch, f**k me.

Shaun has at least shown glimpses.

But Mitch has shown sweet f**k all, and keeps getting selected...

The Sun is poking through the clouds now.

Forecast is for improving weather this afternoon, but you can never tell down here

If we need to pick an 'allrounder' who averages 20 with the bat and 60 with the ball, may as well pick stoinis.

averages less than 20 so far this season, which is why he is not being mentioned
