Head got dropped a couple of times too from memory

yep, think he got dropped once but cbf looking it up

what a god send he has been, if we are fair dinkum about winning this I'd bat him at 3, this is not the time for Manus to be playing himself into form with a nice half a dozen off 50 balls

Suppose we should attempt to go for a win.

Otherwise who needs time in the middle? Send out the top 4 and just tell them to block everything for 6 hours. Gotta feel bat on ball boys.

Bazball might have infected my brain, but why not open with Carey and Head (Smith at 3), put on 100-120 as quickly as possible and then declare?

They might just be happy to play the game out and see what happens. No Hazelwood, there's merit in not killing Starc and Cummins looking for a near impossible win. Especially when our spinner is bald and useless.

This is Lyon's record against India in Australia.

Each series has averaged more then 30 with the ball.

He is ineffective against India on our shores.

To have Australia's frontline spinner since 2011 producing those stats at home is a joke.

LOL @ that 55.11 average during the 2020/21 series. On day 5 of the SCG and Gabba tests, Lyon was as impotent as when Hugh Hefner forgot to take his viagra!

If we had any want to win then we would of declared once we had 350

I haven't been paying close attention to the game up until now but it seems to me like the game is much different without Hazelwood breaking down. If India are following on (which they very easily could have been), their total looks good.

yes - more chance of bowling them out yesterday and them batting now in the second innings if they had 3 front line bowlers

still complaining about declarations is one of the activities of the summer

For sure.

It's not a like for like by any means, but Marsh can pick up slack.

Just realized McSweeney was the only under 30s player in the Aussie squad for this game.

I think Khawaja and Lyon are both 37
Marnus, Head is 30
Cummins 31
Smith 35
Marsh, Carey, Hazelwood are 33 (Hazelwood is 2 weeks off being 34)
Starc is 34, nearly 35

Boland, the natural replacement for the injured Hazelwood is also 35

Could be interesting transition few years coming up.

All those calling for a declaration at 7/400 would have been looking silly yesterday.

We have a decent record under Cummins but play way too defensive. This Australian attack isn't losing when we have 350 on the board.

No way Ponting sends Carey and Lyon out to start the day batting
