I think one of the biggest problems aus cricket has is no anchor in the middle order. The top order is always vulnerable to the new ball. Look we got williamson out after we exposed him to the new ball here. I think nevill can play thar role (hes obviously not an ab or tugga) but a safety valve in the middle order is great. We have the two marsh brothers in that spot

Nevill needs to bat 5 IMO. He's a classy batsman who can tough it out when needed

Yep he absolutely must bat ahead of mitch marsh

I wouldn't bat him higher than 6, otherwise it might take away from his wicket keeping if we are expecting him to bat longer most of the time

Leave MMarsh at 6 for now see how he develops over the next 12 months. If he cant step up a bit, then we possibly look to bring someone else in eg Faulkner? Henriques?

He bats at 4 for NSW generally and his keeping was good enough to get him into the side. I don't think it will be an issue.

In fairness I think he's a quality player. He's not consistent as a batsman, but he's also batting too high at 5, he seems a classic number 7. But he was good keeper when he had the gloves, he's a dangerous batsman and an excellent fielder. I just think his captaincy is pretty ordinary for the most part.

fair enough, but id like them to see if they can develop another middle order. Id like to see Khawaja back in the side at the top of order and possibly Chris Lynn at 4 or 5 when he gets back fit, I think the bloke is made for test cricket.

Neville is averaging mid 20s in tests so far, so not sure he needs or wants a promotion up the order just yet, based on one 50 dig
