As much as Hastings should be there, he hasn't been that bad really. The Sth Africans are having trouble scoring runs off him, which helps the strike bowlers at the other end.

Clarke is starting to show the effects of spending so much time in the middle..

Vision on The Cricket Show of Hastings getting his Baggy Green off Gilly showed Clarke had a skin cancer removed from the back of his neck..You could clearly see the butterfly bandage..

Slip,slop,slap Cap'n..

Add Jackson Bird please as well as the 4th quick.
Well if Johnson wasn't going to take the new ball why pick someone like Hastings who barely gets the new rock for the Vic's??

Pick a new ball bowler like Bird, Hazlewood or even Dougie

And the 2 and a half years before that?
His career test batting average is 37.5. That's over 35 tests. NOONE stays in the team with those numbers.

He is in the team because he is a bowling all rounder. If he was primarily a batsman he wouldn't be in the team.

Starc looks promising - surely a much better option than Hilfenhaus who one series aside has always looked awful to me...

This will be another very interesting test - isn't test cricket wonderful? And even more wonderful now that most teams are relativey competitive...

Since the 2009 Ashes series when he actually cemented his spot in the side, he has averaged 42 with the bat.

Thats over 3 and a half years.

I'd have Hilfenhaus over Hastings and Starc over Siddle.

Starc's first spell was puss but jeez he has come back well, he always settles down better in his second spell

he should have been there from the first test, its not the pitch and bounce thats getting his wickets, its his late swing and we could have used that in Adelaide

he's pretty useful with reverse swing as well

Since when has it been about speed? If you can find the spot, you don't need speed. McGrath and Clark weren't fast at all in comparison...
