Man, I was a big Hughes fan before this series, now I realise how garbage he actually is, I'd probably prefer Steve Smith in the ashes team than him, and that's saying something..

Ashes Team -

1) Cowan
2) Warner
3) Watson
4) Clarke
5) Khawaja
6) S.Smith
7) Haddin
8) Siddle
9) Starc
10) Pattinson
11) Lyon

Cummins should be fit by then too.

Sandshoe my smokey.

Lol..

You are so wrong,so often..

This is Chris Martin's bunny you are referring to..
Agaiin, his technique now is very different to what it was back then.

He didn't nick anything to the slips all summer. And Sri Lankas quicks are no worse than Chris Martin.

And the one real spell of Indias quicks he's faced he did well.
So what you're basically saying is that county runs is more an indication of one's ability in tests than test runs. OK sure....
County runs are better indication of the likelihood of success in an Ashes tour than a tour of India.
HAH averages 19 in tests in England..
His technique now is nothing like what it was back then. He has fixed his weaknesses against quicks.

So that's why the selectors felt they had to protect him from the Seth Efrikan quicks..

Just out of curiosity, how many more failures are you willing to put up with before you concede how wrong you have been about HAH??..

And why have his struggles in India changed your opinion of him in terms of the Ashes tour?

It's like finding out your Qantas pilot can't swim well and then not wanting him to fly your plane because of it.

People have short memories. Sri Lanka have a world class spinner as well. In fact he took more wickets than any other for a calender year last year.

Hughes did just fine against him. Why? Because it wasn't on the subcontinent and it's unique conditions.

Playing Herath in Australia is a lot more like playing Swann in England than playing Ashwin in India.

If he failed in the first 2 Ashes tests I probably wouldn't pick him in the 3rd.

The next time Hughes scores a Test run will be the fifth of never.

That said, I do *tentatively* like BM's point about Herath. Checking stats now.

I'm liking this application from Cowan. Exactly what we need in the side right now.

Lol..You are the one with the short memory..

HAH telegraphed what was going to happen on this tour when he tried to sweep Herath onto his stumps in the Sydney test..

In fact i told you in a post in that test match thread what would happen to HAH..

And you said he would be "just fine in India"..

Oh well I'm switching the channel. I wonder how bad we'll be at the end of the game.

60 wickets at 22. As good as any of the Indians. Hughes got 2 80s and didn't look troubled.

I just don't think it's logical to deny him a spot in the Ashes team based on struggles in India. In the last 18 months he has proved himself in English and Australian conditions. That should be enough for a seat on the plane to the mother country.

In fact if they even dropped him from the 4th test here I'd be fine with that as long as they made it very clear he'd be on the plane to England.

Yep - Herath got Failed twice in Sydney.

I'm taking medication at the moment and my memory is very fuzzy.
Hughes got 80odd in Sydney.

I didn't say Herath never got Hughes. I just said Hughes was able to succeed while facing a world class spinner in the opposition attack. BECAUSE it wasnt in India.

Oh look, Cowan doing well. I thought he was terrible and should be dropped before Hughes and Watson?

Who couldn't hold their own against spin in Australia? I can't remember the last time a ball turned on an Australian pitch

And Swann got 14 wickets at 40 in the 2009 Ashes. And he was the only spinner in the top 7 wicket takers.

In terms of spin bowling, English conditions are much more similar to Aussie conditions than they are to Indian conditions.

Struggling in India should not cost anyone a spot in the Ashes, not just Hughes.
