To be honest, I get fed up with teams going into the round 26, locked in the same position with 6 other clubs, only seperated by the 72-0 thrashing Melbourne gave them a couple of weeks ago. I find it hard to believe all those clubs are very 'evenly matched'. The points system and the salary cap does that.
Instead of chucking Golden Point to create less congestion through the table with a couple of disappointing draws, why not hand out more points for winning margins?
You could have four competition points up for grabs each match.
4 points to the victorious team with a winning margin over 6 points.
3 points to the victorious team with a winning margin within 6 points, and 1 point to the defeated team, who got within 6 points of their opposition.
2 points to each team in the case of a draw.
This way teams aren't punished as harshly if they have been in front the whole game, and are pipped in the final minute of the game.
A lucky 'pull it out of the bag' win doesn't gain the same rewards as a 50-0 thrashing.
And 6 teams aren't locked on the same points at the end of the round robbin.
Kind of like the Super 14 I guess.
Thoughts?
