normal service resumes. we will now see the difference between playing on pride and courage and seasonned professionals.

On another note why are they playing khe san etc. it's a test match for crying out loud. I'm not a fan.

The thing about emerging nations is that they seem to switch off and fall to pieces for periods, and get punished for it. We saw it in England v France when France were the better side for 70 minutes, and we've seen it again today with Wales conceding 24 points in 7 minutes that killed the game. This will improve the more exposure they get against the big 3. These nations aren't far away from competing IMO.

Players switch off because they are tired and don't have the mental of physical conditioning that the opposing professionals have. The players need solid time in Superleague playing against professionals much more than they need a handful of tests against the big 3 once every four years.

Despite that, today's game will probably be a slight positive for league in Wales. If they had gone out and lost 60-4 it would be a big negative. No one wants to watch that.

Let's be honest, Australia were coasting and played quite poorly in the first half. Despite the fact that Wales played very well, I think it is a bit of an illusion.

You see these collapses with New Zealand and England too, although admittedly not quite as dramatic. Case in point: this year's Newcastle test and the 2009 Four Nations Final (went from like 18-16 to 46-16 in 20 minutes).

I really hope the European Cup is held next year. If England aren't coming down under to tour, they should be involved and possibly Italy as well.

Disagree, the French players that collapsed for 10 minutes against England were all full-time. And as pcpp says, it also happens to England and NZ on occasion, although they are better at coping because they have better athletes. Like Phil Clarke said, the experience of playing in the 4N could do as much as an entire season of Super League for the young Welsh players like Dudson and Kear. It's the mental conditioning needed to play at international level that these teams are lacking, because any mistakes or lapses in concentration are punished so more more severely. That's why people say that the intensity of Origin gives Australia such an advantage.

Wow, good to hear Wales put up a good fight, pity about the second half. Can't wait for the final!

Sorry, there is no way I can agree with that statement. These teams are lacking much more than just mental conditioning. I wish that were the case but it is clearly not. Physical and technical ability come to mind. Sure, Briers is world class, but the Australian team is full of blokes that are at least his equal.

To get a Welsh teams full of Briers quality players you need to boost Superleague participation by Welsh blokes five fold.
