I thought all the refs were neutral this year? Who do we think we are, no wonder everybody else hates us.

Although perenara is more biased to his paymasters Australia than any Aussie ref would be. Might be good for england, it's not right tho!

Rightly or wrongly this will be viewed as Australia trying to stack as much in their favour as possible. Sutton shouldn't have to be put in this position where his integrity is being challenged before a ball has been passed. We had neutral refs at the WC so why the sudden change of policy?

Ausies appointing an Australian referee after it was said the games would have neutral referees is tantamount to cheating IMO!

I'm no fan of Henry Perenara but he's there for a reason, to be the neutral official between Australia and England so WTF!

Stinks

I'd say. Shows how desperate they are. Pathetic really

Not at all, you are underestimating the demands of UK RL. 6 weeks less off season than the NRL and more games. A primary factor in england/GB's underperformances in the superleague era. The intensity doesn't stay as high as the NRL, but to imply players can go to the UK league for a rest is completely naive.

James Graham and Gareth Ellis have both attributed good seasons in the NRL to proper off seasons, something they simply didn't get in the UK

I didn't mean to imply the comp is a bludge. Aside from Catalans less travel. cooler temperatures etc all lead to better conditions to recover and rest from

well...no....

if he was still playing RL,whether in the UK or NRL he's still be frontline for huge collisions and 40+ tackles week in week out.....

in union he'll have very little of that...yet be hailed a superstar

Which I think is the soft way out. Less minutes cooler climate and will be right to go rather the n go to an inferior sport

To be honest, I reckon an Aussie ref might work in England's favour. You see this in Super rugby with local refs here a bit - in an effort to make their impartiality clear they often end up favouring the opposition to an almost unreasonable extent.

I feel very sorry for Sione. Unless he has a blinder, people are going to give it to him deluxe for no other reason than he's been picked way ahead of his time, and in the wrong environment (under the pump).

A similar stunt as this ruined Jarrod Mullen for a long time. Some might say permanently.

I've just got my fingers crossed that he rips it up and keeps the hounds at bay.

Exactly. I feel so freaking sorry for the young bloke...as I did Mullo. People say the hate they spray is directed at the selectors for picking him but it's really not, it ends up being levelled squarely at the player. What do people want him to do? Turn down the opportunity to play for his country when selected? Lol.

It's always the young rookie that gets teared down, even if they weren't even responsible for the loss (e.g. Mullo in SOO). Really nobody wants to see him succeed and I bet will be death riding him all game hoping he makes a mistake. Awful really.

You can bet that if Aus lose it won't be because of a winger. It'll be because only one prop was picked in the entire side. Just watch though, it'll be the 18-year-old winger that cops the brunt of the abuse.

Yet after last week's loss the only player that has been dropped is a winger - go figure.

Cooler temperatures  Difference in average max temperature is about 2 degrees. Reckon that'll make a difference?

Ask the English cricket team. They play in summer both there and here. They complain about the humid more so down here.

My point is if you love the game you will find away to stay in it. So it seems like all lip service so not to piss people off for a future return down the track.

Did anyone apart from the Aussies complain about Bentham? The commentators on 9 - Aussies to a man unless I',m mistaken - thought he did a pretty good job. If I was Sheens I'd be more worried if my captain thought they lost to NZ due to the Kiwis lying on in defence.

There's always going to be a problem when SL plays NRL, as there are clear interpretation differences - particularly around the ruck. That can't be helped. But why nobody in the ARL understands the absolutely cringeworthy image it sends out by insisting on not just an NRL ref but an Aussie is beyond me.

Looking at all the Pom complaining about the ref is a good laugh. They're getting their exit strategy ready after gloating about how they'll beat Australia B.

Nope. Though Gus wasn't there to be fair. Perenara still referee's in the NRL so still has to benefit that style of play

Australia v England they appoint an Aussir ref and NZ v Samao the ref is a kiwi. No other sport would do this and it just makes ours look a complete joke!
