12 session left in the game

Assuming poms bat for another 2.5 of those, and have a 300 run lead (which appears to be a minimum)

We are gonna have to bat for well over 2 days plus to save the game first

Damn, if only there had been another test between Melbourne and Perth we could have rested Johnson and put him in the nets with the coaches for a fortnight.

Watching the Australian wickets I don't think any of them bar the Watson delivery would have gotten one of the English or South Africans out today they know when and what to leave and we have to play at everything. Classic sympton of pyjama cricket.

Yeah a lot of those caught behinds were from balls that did very little in the air and were quite far outside off stump.

I had to laugh when i heard Ponting got a jaffa, he got a decent ball but it was hardly unplayable. Watson and Hussey got good balls but most othe others could have been kept out.

Hussey one probably would have.

Pitched on off and cut away on that annoying length, add to that a little extra bounce as he sometimes gets and it was the ball of the day, or the ball of the wickets anyway

Crap, Watson got the best ball of the dat closely followed by Hussey. As i said Ponting got a good one but it was hardly unplayable. Ambrose used to bowl an over of about that quality most of he time..........

Who needs to go? Hughes, Ponting either retire or go down the order, Hilfenhaus, Smith?

Yes , yes , yes and yes.

Hilfenhaus to me should really just play a Kasprowitz role like for Australia and just come out of the woodwork potentially in sub continent, and then come back for every England series.

Hughes and Smith should go for 2 of Khawaja , Marsh, Ferguson , Cosgrove , White and even Andrew McDonald (our record with him playing is actually very good, and given sydney deteriates he really comes into teh game day 4 and 5)

Hilfenhaus goes for a spinner, Hauritz or Beer (theyve kept him in the squad for 2 weeks so you might as well give him the Benefit of the doubt)

All Watson got was a short ball with a extra little bit of bounce. Good ball but ball of the day your having a laugh.

Pontings angled in, cut away and bounced off a good length. Maybe not unplayable but as good of a ball as we saw.

Not much point bringing in another youngster for mine. If they fail then everyone will be calling for him to be dropped too.

Well i'm having a laugh, as i said good ball but FMD the Ponting of old would have left that without a care in the world. He pushed hard at it and nicked it. Watson and Hussey got the best nuts of the day.

Ponting and Hussey were the only two that didn't get themselves out

 at the talk Watson's ball was unplayable... he was a dead man walking anyway

Hughes, Smith and Clarke were just plain embarrassing - and have been all series

There are at least half a dozen better candidates to bat at #6 ahead of Smith... Hughes is lucky there aren't many quality openers in state cricket. I'd like Khawaja to open but he will be better replacing Ponting at #3.

Ponting has ALWAYS pushed out hard early in his innings - he's ALWAYS been vulnerable like that...

Sorry, but really he's not the problem - sure, he's not scoring runs, but I reckon he will at some stage...

The problem is the numpties in the top order - specifically Hughes, Clarke and Smith - 2 of them are not anywhere close to test players, and Clarke is so at sea it's ridiculous... FFS, Cameron Smith offers as much wil the ball as the NSW wonderkid, and is obviously better with the bat!! He's a big step down from Marcus North, and that's saying something

The other problem, naturally, is perhaps the most impotent bowling attack in test cricket at the moment... Johnson needs the stars aligned, Hilfenhaus is pathetic, Siddle and Harris at least make the batsmen play...

Can't argue with much of that, but Ponting is a massive Problem. He hasn't hit a ton in 10 tests and we all know his captaincy is average to say the least.
