It was a road though back then. This year was the first year where there was any bounce in the WACA pitch for a few years actually!

My memory might be completely wrong but was it not a week or two after Tait belted them in a T20 game (or it may have been a ODI) and was bowling in excess of 155kmph...and then lasted 5 overs in the test before he was buggered!

Thought it was a limited overs game. That was the reason we plonked Tait into the side.

I think the poms have bowling problems. Broad gone. Anderson looks flat. Reports Finn could be rested, his body not holding up to the work rate required of consecutive tests. If we have a few of our batsman run into any kind of form, Punter, hughes, clarke mainly, we really shoud pound them into oblivion.

With our bowling attack, and the wicket as it is, we will most likely play 4 pacemen. More of the same as in perth. Short sharp spells. Hopefully Smith and Clarke to roll the arm over if required

Anderson may be out injured- side strain. That would be a massive blow. Has easily been England's best quick and by a mile as well. Finn is an interesting one because unlike a few of them, he takes wickets, but he goes for a few. That said he is better than Bresnan as a bowler!

Neither was his destruction of NZ but it still counts. Did you happen to watch his twin hundreds against the best pace attack in the world early 2009? Then there were his hundreds in country cricket just before the 2009 Ashes proving he can do it in England aswell. One bad test and he is dropped because we needed cover for Johnson. Time to pipe down Kiwi.

You don't have a differing opinion just an invalid one. Kiwis trying to be the "voice of reason" because it goes against the majority when not knowing sh*t about what they're talking about. Focus on NZ cricket for a change :)

Yes I did see one of his hundreds against SA. I don't particularity care that he averages 50 in domestic cricket though, it's like players who average 40 over here who aren't up to international cricket. I'm not saying he isn't up to international cricket though, just don't think he is anywhere near as good as he has been made out to be. He'll probably come out and score a hundred in the first dig of the boxing day test now haha but we'll see. I do agree he probably shouldn't have been dropped two tests into last ashes though.

The problem with Hughes is attitude rather than technique atm. He might be unorthodox, but I fail to see how the fact that he identifies his own areas of weakness and avoids playing those shots is a bad thing? He's a small guy, and his size and stance makes playing on the leg side difficult, so he plays to his strengths and tends to try and avoid or negate balls in other areas. I actually think that shows a level of cricketing maturity some other players in our team could benefit from having tbh.

I think his problem is his attitude. He seems to be trying to thrash himself out of his slump. He's a pretty exuberant young player who likes to score, and he seems to be trying to hit his way into form. Someone needs to take him aside, whether for NSW or Australia, and tell him to bat time instead of runs. Say to him "Phil, I want you to be there at tea today, and I don't care if you're only on 40." He's got a great eye and a great natural ability to score, but he's forcing it at the moment and getting out. If he bats time, he can get back into the flow of the game and actually play himself in...and he's the kind of guy who will naturally score once his eye is in. He just needs to set aside an innings or two to just hang in there and allow his natural game to come out.

Funny I reckon his problem is exactly the opposite. He looks to me like he's trying to play within himself and so getting stuck in no man's land. The back foot used to go back to square leg which got the bowlers all excited, but it gave him room to cut balls much closer to off stump than other players are able to, kind of like a reverse Katich who gets so far to off you worry he'll leg glance a ball onto off stump.

Now that's been coached out of him and he's trying to play balls he used to blast through point with a straight bat and getting nicks because he's neither forward or back.

I'd love to see him just forget everything that's been said to him for the last 18 months and just bat like he did in South Africa. Just have a lash at anything with a bit of width that looks juicy. He doesn't need a pull shot - Waugh managed just fine without it. If they bowl at the body just get out of the way, but if they get full or wide throw the kitchen sink at it like he used to.

The reason Hussey is back in touch is because 1. he got lucky with a first ball edge falling inches short, and 2. he went back to playing attacking shots rather than batting time. Those first few pull shots in Brisbane are shots he had put away for a long time, but once they came out of the middle he was a new man - sure of himself and his game. I reckon that's all Hughes needs - slap a couple of cracking cuts behind point or over the slips and he'll remember who he is again. He's not a grafter or an accumulator, he's an aggressor who can win a game for you in two sessions if he gets going.
