 Fantastic story. I guess that pretty much personifies what it felt like to be a fan of the Australian cricket team back then.

When you get older and are in a nursing home on your last legs and the Australian cricket team maybe ranked 7th or 8th in the world by then, you will instantly recall and cherish memories such as the one you just mentioned
Sadly them days are long gone.

I still can't believe this muppet captains an Australian first XI. Even if it is Turd20.

I can't believe he made his debut as CAPTAIN (in T20). How many times has that happened before? He must've had some massive dirt on one of the selectors to jump straight to the top of the mountain

Sadly them days are long gone.

The only way we will ever return back to them is if there is a COMPLETE overhaul, starting from management and administration (James Sutherland, the CEO, being the first to go). A change from the top will foster a new mentality and attitude that will pass on to the players. Remember Bob Simpson and Allan Border? The revival of getting Australia out of the doldrums in the '80s started with creating a winning culture and making winning a MUST, not a SHOULD (to use a Tony Robbins quote).

Until that happens though, CA can't expect to see sell-out crowds at ODIs like they were a few years ago and people to fork out $100+/ticket. Even at the redeveloped SCG today, you can see stacks of empty seats in the stands, which would've never been the case a few years ago

Agree 100%

Chairman Victorian should go first, than the Yawnion Nuffy, Invers and than the the new Tassie Tard bowling coach.

True, true. It's f**king insane.

The ease with which he not only got into the Australian camp, but got in as captain, suggests it'll be f**king hard for him to get out. I fear Bailey will likely be around the limited overs sides for a while to come. Dare a say a baggy green will come around at some stage as well *sigh*

Warner looks in ominous form today. Lets hope he doesn't have one of his brain snaps between 60 - 80 again. If he keeps his head he will make a big hundred today.

Yeah, with Michael Beer it wasn't surprising because Shane Warne was the one who was spruiking him and CA obliged. Also, with Rohan Gavaskar, he mainly got in because of his father (i.e. nepotism).

However, I have to say that the cricumstances which led to Bailey getting into the Australian team are very suspicious. I've never seen anything like that before in my 17 years or so of following cricket. He was just a Nigel nobody in state cricket and out of nowhere, then appeared in the national side (and furthermore, as captain). Even his state stats aren't that flattering (averaging less than 40 in Sheffield Shield). Go figure!

What's the definition of tryhard? Someone who mentions there a " rock star" every time they appear in the media.
