Laxman's definitely there for the taking. However, I'd LOVE to see the Aussies get Kohli out first. Absolute grub to the nth degree.

I've only heard these things a thousand times this summer:

Chappell: Rohan Sharma should be in the test team.
Everyone of the dicks: Laxman is a very wristy player.

And yes, he should be given his (average > 60 in FC) and the team's current form. However, the BCCI knows they're in real trouble once Dravid/Laxman/Tendulkar retire as the fans haven't seen much of the youngsters who's stepped up in the bowling or batting ranks and they're trying to hold on to the past for as long as they can. Furthermore, more and more Indian fans (and other former players, such as Kapil Dev) are starting to see the detrimental effects of flogging the IPL (and domestic cricket in general) at the expense of international cricket (tests and ODIs). This was seen in their recent home ODI series vs England, where they failed to sell out any of the matches (even though that was their first home ODI series since their WC win, and India have always generally got big crowds to ODIs in the past). Tendulkar is a massive crowd puller there, but when players like him retire, are the fans going to turn up to see a whole bunch of Joe Schmo's who they've never seen much of? I don't think so.

Yes, we were always going to struggle when McGrath and Warne retired, but if we hit rock bottom in last year's Ashes, I'd hate to see how India are going to fare in a few years time. FACT: they're in for a very long, lean period and a bigger slide than our slump during the Hilditch years.

He should be in the team but I'm f**king sick of that king sized dickhead telling us every 5 minutes. If Sharma was in the side and failed he'd whinge about their selectors picking him.

Well, that's Chappelli for you. You do realise he's nearly 70, so the brain cells cannot be operating as well as they used to. Wasn't he the same person who was a big fan of Steve Waugh until there was suggestion in the media that Steve Waugh was Australia's best captain (during the time where Australia had the massive winning streak, breaking records left right and centre and were being compared to Bradman's Invincibles) and from that moment onwards, bagged the crap out of him at every opportunity, and then kissed up to him when Tugga got inducted in the Hall of Fame at the AB medal not so long ago? Neil Harvey is very similar. Not to mention, Chappelli had massive feuds with nearly everyone: most notably with Geoff Boycott (which I can understand, as a lot of other ppl have said the same about Boycott) and Sir Ian Botham (however, this one is more contrived out of pure jealousy as Botham was a class player and did more than Chappelli ever did). I've come across many ppl in my very short life who have Chappelli's "See, I TOLD YOU SO" personality. They can go from praising you like you can do no wrong, to threatening you with a knife at point blank range, to kissing your arse (metaphorically speaking) in a matter of moments. They have massive egos the size of Kim Beazley's gut, but it is just camouflaging massive insecurities and unhappiness within the individual.

The sly c**k puts the knife into Bradman every chance he gets as well, just because he and his grandfather didnt get along The whole 'Chappelli was the best captain I played for' crap is a load of shit as well. Basically anyone who played in that era played under Lawry, Greg Chappell, Kim Hughes and him. Lawry was a conservative captain who probably should never got the job. Kim Hughes was undermined by Chappell and his mates from day one. Greg Chappell was just his brothers stooge. That leaves Ian to wax on about the good ole days and how great he was.

Yeah, he reminds me of the person who would go down to the pub on his days off and crap on to all the locals with sentences starting with "Back in my day..." or long-winded stories about what happened on the tour of 1968 blah blah blah. Trying to live off past glories.

Regarding Bradman, interesting you mentioned that. I remember the interview Chappeli did on Enough Rope with Andrew Denton a few years ago or so, and how he said words to the effect of "Oh, before I penned my autobiography, I didn't want to say anything that I never said whilst Bradman was still alive as I don't want to be disrespectful to the dead", and then he started crapping on like Bradman was the spawn of satan and he epitomised everything that was wrong with Australian cricket etc.

As you correctly implying AlwaysGreen, the "Old Boys" mentality is prevalent in Chappelli and the whole Ch9 commentary team (he sucked off Warne/Slater/Taylor/Healy etc. in his autobiography, lauding them with praise) and you cannot expect to get a look in if you are not a part of them (e.g. S Waugh, Border etc.)
