Funny thing is, people are in here quoting all these names as the worst players ever

Those players are a) 1,000% better than them and b) probably much better than hundreds of other players who have played for their clubs but are long forgotten as they either managed one game at best or never made first grade

I'd say a bad signing is one that takes more in $$$ or salary cap than they deliver on the field. Someone who comes cheap as chips and subsequently does little doesn't qualify, IMO.

How has Luke Burgess not got a mention?
Wouldn't have played a game of NRL if it wasn't for his brothers.
You don't get called 'the shit Burgess' for nothing.
Did take Souths long to get rid of him once Sam left.

1. Wesser- held inglis out of the fb position.

Wesser played his final first grade match for the Rabbitohs in Round 21, 2011. If he had held Inglis out of the FB position, the latter would have played fullback next round. But he didn't. Nathan Merritt did. Inglis was at centre. Then in 2012 Dylan Walker started as fullback before swapping positions with Inglis as an experiment a month into the season. Inglis had not previously played fullback in 7 years, and then only on rare occasions.

The truth is that Inglis was never considered as a first choice fullback during the time Wesser was at Souths.

Whether Wesser was a good signing, I don't know. It depends how much he was being paid. He had been unwanted at his previous club despite 11 years of fine service (and made their official all time team), thus I'd surmise Souths got him at a less than premium price. I thought he played OK at Souths, but clearly his best was some years behind him.

Dylan Walker didn't debut until 2013. He was only 17 at the start of 2012.
Merritt was given first choice at fullback after wesser departure but it didn't take long to realise that he wasn't the best choice. It's always been discussed that greg Inglis best position was always fullback, even going back to his storm days. The thing holding him back was of course billy Slater. Had wesser not been at Souths, the Merritt at fullback experiment would of been tried and failed and Inglis would of been in fullback alot earlier. Also wesser's performances in those last few years were really down on the great performances he put in at his time with the panthers

My main issue with Tomkins was that he kept falling over all the damn time. Aside from that I was OK with his stay at the Warriors, he had a lot of really good input into games (particularly distributing the ball at just the right moment), I'll always wonder what could've been had he come into the halves on his return from injury given the great form Lolohea was in at fullback in his absence.

Was still on a ridiculous sum of money, but I've never really cared who gets paid what, so likey'knowwhatever.

The combo of Dane Nielsen & Todd Lowrie was pretty bad, their hype as being part of the Storm machine hardening up our woeful Warriors was hard to avoid as well. Lowrie's best game was the preseason trial in Dunedin, turns out he was certainly no Michael Luck (damn what a signing he was by the way).

Tomkins wasn't great for the Warriors, but he's not the worst buy ever. A similar list a year ago had Maitua to the Sharks at number 1 which was a little surprising at the time, but he played something like 8 games and lost all of them, then got a 2 year ban for taking a banned substance. Hard to outdo that. Tomkins probably isn't in the bottom 20 on overall performance or on value for money.

The Knights are making a late play for the top 50 by signing Lowrie. WTF? I always say, if you're a wooden spooner, make sure you sign blokes that have spectacularly failed at their last two clubs, have ongoing concussion issues and offer absolutely nothing apart from being able to tackle around the legs.

Worst Souths signings over the last 10 years (That I can think of off the top of my head). Some of the choices were harsh but we never really got any quality out of any of them.

2. Joel Reddy ('14-'15)
3. Darryl Millard ('15)
4. Colin Best ('09-'10)
5. Shannon Hegarty ('05-'08)
6. Ben Rogers ('05-'08)
7. Craig Wing ('08-'09)

13. Joe Picker ('14)

14. Ben Ross ('10-'11)
