Worst Souths signings over the last 10 years (That I can think of off the top of my head). Some of the choices were harsh but we never really got any quality out of any of them.

1. Rhys Wesser ('09-'11)
2. Joel Reddy ('14-'15)
3. Darryl Millard ('15)
4. Colin Best ('09-'10)
5. Shannon Hegarty ('05-'08)
6. Ben Rogers ('05-'08)
7. Craig Wing ('08-'09)
8. Michael Greenfield ('06-'09)
9. George Ndaira ('08)
10. Garret Crossman ('09-'11)
11. Glenn Stewart ('15)
12. Joe Galuvao (
13. Joe Picker ('14)

14. Ben Ross ('10-'11)
15. Jeff Lima ('13)
16. Kane Cleal ('09)
17. Craig Stapleton ('10)

Jeez we've had some pretty average props.

Ben ross wasn't to bad for us. He didn't play all of 2010, but in 2011 he was one of our better more consistent players.
Jeff lima was also ok in the season he played for us. We got him cheap and he always done his job for us.
How Dave Taylor didn't get a mention in your team I don't know. Big money for a guy who only played decent once a month and only showed flashes off his enormous potential.
I'm not sure if they fit into the last decade (i think shane and ben do) but your team needs more walker brothers

Had a go at a team of Dragons dud signings. A bit harsh on Beale, as he wasn't that bad, but he was signed as our long term fullback replacement for Boyd, and it just never worked out as planned. There were an awful lot of alternatives I could have went with in the three quarters and halves. Willie Peters, Josh Drinkwater, Chris Sheppard, and Wes Patten deserve special mention alongside Witt and Williams. Anyone who mocks us for signing Benji forgets how bad Witt and Williams played for us at the start of last year (Adam Quinlan was the third player we tried as a partner for Widdop before signing Benji).

1. Gerard Beale
2. Dylan Farrell
3. Dane Nielson
4. Albert Torrens
5. Daniel Vidot
6. Michael Witt
7. Sam Williams
13. Bronson Harrison
12. Nathan Long
11. Solomon Haumono
10. Josh Miller
9. Simon Woolford
8. Quention Pongia

14. John Cross
15. Willie Manu
16. George Rose
17. Russell Packer

18. Tim Moltzen (c)

10. Nathan Long
11. Sam Isemonger
12. Bronson Harrison
13. Josh Miller

14. Henry Perenara
15. Chase Stanley
16. Atelea Vea

glenn steward wasnt that bad for rabbits, he was actually looking ok at the beginning of the season

That was how I saw it as well.
He became a fan favourite and everyone was singing his praises.
But then he had a falling out with the coach, signed elsewhere for next season and put in a handful of lacklustre performances in the last weeks of the season and suddenly he is the most hated player at Souths and his whole time with the team was a disaster

Can't agree with naming Colin Best. He was actually good for us.

Mark Gasnier made him look good...

Gasnier could make an average winger look like a superstar...

Hell, he could have even made Steve Turner look great..

but i guess in the theme of this thread, Colin Best wasn't a bad buy for the dragons.. relatively cheap and topped the try scoring lists for the NRL...

I know exactly what you mean with the highlighted players as at one point or another they have played for both our teams. The worst of the highlighted pick goes to Ben Rogers.

2 games actually but they were both quality! :sarcasm:

 Yeah Tallis is a merkin of the highest order no doubt! But to be fair I would have been only 6 or 7 years old and don't really remember that, but his TV career alone is enough for me to hate the dopey prick.

Pfft if we can go back, the gold standard has to be Greg Smith that played 1 game for the Knights after lying about being an NFL player lol.

It really is amazing what shit you could pull before the internet really came of age.
These days a quick Google would bring that to a halt.

Not sure if it has been mentioned but geez it's harsh to put Stanley (Storm) in there, got MOTM in his only game for us (I'm pretty sure) but also did his knee, hardly a flop just unlucky..

The 2002-2004 period of Souths is the greatest comedy Australia has ever produced.

There was nothing funnier back then than watching Souths. Either they'd get thumped, or better yet they'd occasionally roll someone giving much lols against their fans. They upset Manly in 2004 I believe, was one of the more entertaining games as a neutral that year

They also beat defending premiers Penrith at quite a soggy SFS. Actually, not just beat... won quite comfortably. At the time, it was like watching a very slow car crash.

Richie Williams and that other little williams f**ker to penrith should rate.

2 of the more awesome signings during the benovolent Matt Elliott / Glen Matthews / Mick Leary era... and yet Tahu is the only one that makes the list? All righty then.

Darius Boyd is also on the 50 best buys in nrl history list ... His signing for the Dragqueens put him at number 13 on the list

No signing was worse than Hegarty was for Souths.
Chris walker may have only played 5 or so games for us but at least he had the decency to walk out on us and not continue to waste a wage.
Wing did ok for us, but he was at the end of his career.
Stewart started the year ok with us, but obviously he had his injuries and a falling out with the coach.
But they were all better signings then Hegarty.

Also the lack of Dave Taylor on this list is disturbing. If not for Souths then surely for the Titans

Speaking about wasting a wage. When a johns signed his last contract, theyhad to let ben kennedy go. Thereafter, no more chance of a premiership.

As the NRL was formed in 1998, I'm surprised Paul Langmack to the Roosters in 1999 did not make this list. He was signed by Phil Gould to be the "wise old head" at the club, but treated the place as a retirement home. He played 3 games all year and finished the year in the stands - not because of injury but because he was crap. Word around the traps at the time was he was completely unprofessional on the training paddock.

He was a worse signing than Paul Vautin was, and that's saying something.
