Better context….in 2010-11 we lost 3 tests by an innings and Mike Hussey still managed 570 runs. Really shines a light in the quality of batting we’ve seen.

Better context….in 2010-11 we lost 3 tests by an innings and Mike Hussey still managed 570 runs. Really shines a light in the quality of batting we’ve seen.

Hussey was the 2nd leading run-scorer that Ashes (to Alastair Cook, who scored 766 runs).

Smith scored nearly 28% of all the runs Australia scored in that 2019 Ashes series. Smith also dominated similarly in the 2017/18 Ashes, where he scored 23% of all the Australian runs.

That performance in 2019 though is one hell of a large chunk of the team's runs, when you compare that to the leading run-scorers from previous Ashes series.

Just like in Edgbaston where the first innings scores where nearly the same, Australia have made England's bowlers bowl nearly 50 overs more in the 1st innings of this test match (in addition to Ali's injury, which meant Broad/Anderson/Wood/Woakes had to bowl much more than they would've had Ali been available).

This Ashes, England were only able to bat more than 100 overs in an innings once (1st innings at Old Trafford).
