if this guy had have watched the game closer he would have noticed Starc had a lot of issues with the footmarks and slipping on the pitch

it's not as though he's been over bowled
I think his figures as he progresses through a series tell the real story.

15 wickets @t 26, he's going better than he normally does

if they want to manage him then fair enough cuz I reckon Richardson is next in line and he needs games as he's not playing at the moment, but "managing" players just for the sake of it is why some of them can lose form/momentum imo

Yeah, I'd be swapping Starc for JR as well. Starc 0 wickets when we needed him to fire seals it. JR should was unfortunate to be dropped.

I guess Harris is a project but this project looks a bust. Sure we've got to prepare for a post Warner team but I'd be playing the hot hand with Khawaja.

Wouldn't mind Swepson getting a run, but not happening this series.

Anyone considering dropping Khawaja should be sacked. You do whatever it takes to fit a bloke into your team after he has scored 2 tons.

Also, I was reading what Cummins said about the declaration...the bloke thought setting them 388 to chase was giving them something they'd have a crack at? A total 100 above the all time SCG record chase? I love him as a player and I hope he becomes a great captain but wowee does he need to improve himself as a strategist. They were never ever going to try and chase something in the high 300s in under 4 sessions.

To do what he wanted to do, set them something they would have a go at to make it easier to get wickets, he should have declared as soon as Khawaja got his 100.

Look he will learn. It was his first major declaration he had to make.

You cant control the weather though.

The 7 overs they lost on day 5 due to rain cost them. If the shower that appeared at lunch didnt happen they probably win i dont think Jimmy is lasting 7 overs plus the game wouldn't have finished that late which meant pace would have been used at the end and not forced to bowl spin.

Also BunniesMan:
Watch the Poms win this tomorrow. 350 odd runs in a day is easy. 10 wickets in hand. If Crawley and Hameed can get a chunk of them it is a bonus before the real bats come in. Stokes and Bairstow are in form... the merkins could pull our pants down here

No JR Boland or Haze

Neser in for Boland and no rest for Warnies favourite fast bowler, which is fine considering it’s a DNer.

Play JR and Haze instead of Starc and Neser in the first test v NZ.

Coaches set the plans not the captain, the myth that the skipper does as he likes needs to die

I don't think myself that the declaration was an issue as they created enough chances on day 5 to bowl England out - getting 10 wickets on the last day is often a hard task and they obtained 9.

The only thing I would question is why send Carey out to bat when the declaration was pending. Should have declared when Green was out.

Declarations have always been the responsibility of the captain. Of course anyone can give advice and of course you listen to the coach's advice but the responsibility sits with you. If it works out you get the praise and if it doesn't you get the criticism.

On other matters, can anyone believe we once played Warney and Tim May together in Hobart. For so long Hobart has seemed an English style climate and pitch. Cold, grey, for the seamers. But Warne and May took a combined 16 wickets in 1993 against the Kiwis.

It would be discussed with the coaches but the captain does make the decision. Same with fielding and bowling plans.

It is true that previous Australian captains had more responsibility. It will be different with Cummins as he is a bowler. Also because this isn't a team of superstars like we had 20 years ago. Some of those players coached themselves.
