Ahhhh the heady days of live music at the Bar on the Hill (Newcastle Uni). I have fond memories of these bands...
Regurgitator (the whole crowd yelling out "I will lick your ***hole" is stuck in my memory)
Shihad (Jon Toogood jumping on top of a speaker, yelling out "Newcastle Uni f***ing rules", and leaping into the crowd for a body surf. Just as well he was a skinny bugger, the impact when he landed on me was manageable. The band members had drinks at the bar after the gig, the single most humble band I've ever had the pleasure of meeting.)
28 Days (one time they toured they only just released "What's The Deal" a few weeks previously, massive crowd singalong)
Something For Kate (before people started saying they were boring, "Say Something" was great live)
The Superjesus (the crowd never got tired of "Gravity")
The Casanovas ("California" to this day remains one of the coolest songs I've ever heard live.)
The Mark of mother******* Cain! (nuff' said)
TISM (didn't actually see them at BOTH, went down to this Earthcore festival in Victoria to see them play. Hilarious)
Superheist (you can laugh now, but the crowd at the time loved "Crank Up The System" and "Bullet")
Bodyjar (so sad when I heard these guys broke up, nothing good lasts forever. Not The Same was my uni anthem of choice)
Grinspoon (they were actually at that point one of my favourite bands, Just Ace, Champion, Damn Straight and Lost Control were great live songs)
Magic Dirt (just really good old school rock n roll. Adalita was smoking.)
You Am I (They would normally rock out for 2 hours straight. From start to finish, from Berlin Chair to Get Up, they were awesome.)
Alchemist (Psychedelic Metal, the amount of energy they put into their live show was incredible, massive respect for this band. They didn't mind the fact they only had a live audience of about 10 people who bothered to show up and see them play. They were grateful we showed up and spent time during the set just asking us how we were going. They deserved a better audience tbh and more people should make an effort to go and support this band - if they're still around)
There was also this young band called the Vines that no one had heard of at that point. They put on a pretty tight set in support of You Am I and handed out free promo cds.
