A Draft?

Since 1998 NO team has gone and won back to back premierships, only Brisbane & Manly have won more than one, every team has competed in the finals, all but Souffs have won a finals match, I think 12 teams have competed on the big day and of those teams only Warriors, Eels & Cowboys have not won a premiership. We've seen teams win a comp or compete in a grand final then come last, equal last or just survive the spoon a few short years later & even had a team go from last to a GF the next year.

What exactly needs fixing?

The lack of off field incidents to fill the column inches of the leeches who make their money riding waves of negativity and hysteria.

Lol yeah I have noticed this debate pops up every time RL is all quiet with no off field controversy.

Amazing start to the year but these germs in the media want to talk about a draft

A draft is a restraint of trade and is technically illegal. I wouldn't mind an optional draft for players that want to continue playing but their current club doesn't want them anymore. That could be run at the end of the year while a trade window would stop people talking about these signings unless it is within the window.

Anything beyond that is a joke, AFL doesn't have any advantage over our system. Andrew Johns got to play for the Knights, imagine if he was drafted to the Gold Coast Seagulls?

As has been pointed out time and time again, a draft in rugby league is the solution to a problem that doesn't exist.

I'm sick of the media and fans talking about this shit all year instead of this weeks games. I'm sick of players signing 12-16 months in advance. I'm sick of players not focused on what fans are focused on.
What makes you think a trade week will stop any of that? We had a June 30 deadline previously and it did nothing to prevent deals being made or the media and the fans speculating about what deals had been done. It was unenforceable. Deals will still be done in secret. They'll be done 12 months in advance, and then registered during the approved time. Until then the media will still talk, and until then the fans will still talk. It'll be the same sham, different deadlines.

How do you spell 'incompetence'? N-R-L.

If a system was regulated, policed, cases investigated if rules suspected to be breached, and penalties enforced if proven, then a free agency period would work.

But this is the NRL.

Media speculation about rumours is one thing.Media talking about confirmed stories is much worse.

If the NRL investigated legit rumours and punished offeners, people would stick to a trade window.

A window works in AFL, Soccer and US sports. It would work here if properly enforced.

It always gets me thinking and wondering if we could do the same thing in the NRL get the the best like 100 junior league players(17-19 year olds) together in the country and put them through a skills camp etc etc like they do in the AFL.

Then obviously the worst performing teams from the previous season get the top picks.

Anyone else think this could work?

We have a national youth competition. What is the point of some wankfest of a 'skills camp' when we have hundred kids playing and training each week...
