Hayne didnt perform well on the wing this year because he was selected on the right wing instead of the left to accomidate that tosser Brett Morris.
IMO if Stewart can return as good as he was, my team would be
1. Stewart
2. Hayne
5. Uate

Duggan and Coote are REALY unlucky, so to is Gordon who i think is playing realy well.

1. Kurt Gidley (c)
2. Akuila Uate
3. Jamie Lyon
4. Michael Jennings
5. Jarryd Hayne
6. Todd Carney
7. Mitchell Pearce

14. Josh Dugan

I think Dugan would be more effective if he comes on against tired opponents, rather than the Queenslanders belting the sh*t out of him right from the get go. Gids to start but after 20-30 minutes, shift to hooker and bring Dugan on at fullback.

Imagine if Queensland did that: "let's bring on Billy Slater after 30 mins that's a surefire way to win". The fullback should play the ENTIRE game. Waste of a bench spot and stuffs up the backline combinations.

Billy Slater has played 12 Origins, 9 Tests, 178 first grade games and 4 Grand Finals.

Josh Dugan has played 0 Origins, 0 Tests, 36 first grade games and is about to enter only his first finals series.

Dugan coming off the bench in his first game to ease him into State of Origin for Game I is completely different to the games best fullback doing the same. It's just an option, if we're ever going to beat Queensland we have to think outside the square.

i think Dugan would handle it fine. He seems like the type of guy that wouldn't back down from the challenge IMO.

Slater started his SOO career on the wing and bench didnt he?

RHCP's idea is not so crazy

but why waste a bench position on a specialist fb when our props and hooker are our weak points. frankly we need all the forwards we can get on the bench otherwise we're going to be done in again. our backline, if selected correctly and consistently, is fine and we don't need another jamal idris selection on the bench.

This. We need two specialists props on the bench next year. Not a 2nd rower to slot in

14. Prop
15. Prop
16. Second Rower
17. Kidley (Utility, Comes on 2nd Half, we don't need to rush him on in first half just for the sake of it)
IMO.

Yes, Slater started out on the wing. Matt Bowen has played plenty of games off the bench as well.

Idris required a massive reshuffle. Gidley to hooker, as he would do if he was on the bench, and Dugan to fullback.

Gidley will still play the utility role. Just rather than having him start off the bench, have him take the early heat from fullback so Dugan is more effective and doesn't have the holy hell belted out of him for the first 20 minutes leaving him with nothing left for the remaining 60.

So you're saying that Dugan wouldn't be able to play consistently well over the whole 80 min in SOO? or that he isn't tough to take the knocks in the first 20?

I think that he's going to be targetted by Queensland and that he could be more effective if he played 60 minutes in Game One than if he played 80.

I wouldn't be upset if he started, I just think it's an option that could benefit the side.

they did this in 08 i think (not sure). brett stewart came off the bench while gidley started. it was a stupid game plan. dugan should play 80 or not at all, and haven't we moved on from gidley at fb? what about hayne or stewart?

Because neither Hayne nor Stewart fulfills the utility role. Preston Campbell or Todd Carney possibly.

I'd worry more about Stewart getting over his trial and injuries before even considering him for first grade, let alone origin.

It worked just fine for QLD when Karmichael Hunt started at fullback and Billy Slater came off the bench after 20 mins.

NSW have so many quality 80-min backrowers that you should have 2 or even 3 props on the bench. And given that Ennis is pants and Farah plays for himself, I'm actually starting to think Gidley at hooker for 80 mins is the best option.

1. Dugan
2. Hayne
3. Lyon (right centre)
4. Jennings
5. Gordon (right wing)
6. Carney
7. Pearce
8. Weyman
9. Gidley
10. Learoyd-Lahrs
11. Minichiello/Heighington/Aubusson
12. Gallen
13. Bird

14. Lewis
15. Watmough
16. Snowden
17. Mannah

This whole thread is pointless - Uate won't make the NSW origin team at full strength anyway.

This whole thread is pointless - Uate won't make the NSW origin team at full strength anyway.

You know what is really scarey about Uate topping the try scoring list and winning Dally M winger of the year in what is basically his rookie year?

All his coaches keep saying he doesn't have much footy knowledge and he can improve in nearly every aspect.

Uate made the 2006 Australian schoolboys side after less than 20 games of League, most for his school and a park side on the Central coast, and having played 4 games in the Knights juniors and scored 1 try.
He missed most of 2007 with injury.
So basically, this season he has as much league experience as your average australian 10 year old (two or three seasons).

Barring injury, Dally M winger of the year and top try scorer might be the worst season he ever has.
