What happened to McKinnon was an accident. Plain and simple. Not even close to the worst tackle I've ever seen. He dipped his head at the wrong moment.

Cam Smith wasn't involved in the tackle and suggested the above to the ref. But because of McKinnon's injury he's supposed to call and apologise? Jesus Christ.

Should he call for every injury that happens in games he plays? Or is there some sort of criteria. Someone clear this up. f**king unbelievable.

I watch commercials for the 60 Minutes shows and laugh and wonder who watches that completely fabricated, scripted bullshit. Now I know. You guys got played and suckered hard.

"Watch as the terrifying drama unfolds, leaving you breathless!" I'm going to go out on a limb here and assume there were some tears, things that up until airtime had been unsaid. Get outta here.

This is mostly how I feel about the situation.

Do I feel sorry for Alex? hell yes I do. I hope he does get to walk his missus down aisle one day. I just really don't think this sudden outburst played out in the media is doing you any favours.

As Bennett said, Smith got it wrong that night, but I think the ambush journalism by 60mins showing that footage to Alex that he had never seen was in pretty poor taste, they exploited Alex & got the reaction they wanted from him

This is an exercise by Nine in drawing even more focus and attention, and directly, more ratings towards Wednesday nights decider.

They've managed to use someones misfortune to promote a football game that might,in the end, only attract a very minimal difference in the viewing audience.

But as far as adding more spice to the atmosphere,of the match at the game and for the viewers at home or in the pubs & clubs?

Depends whether you live in Qld or Newcastle I guess.

McKinnon has also done the same thing to sell his book though.

The smith comments were nothing new
Most people were aware of them at the time

60 mins just bought it all back up again

He should realised the seriousness of the situation and just kept quiet.
He come off looking pretty bad .

The actual tackle was a freakish accident albeit illegal to an extent.

McKinnon has lost the use of half his body, would it be too much for Smith to msg him or call him even if it is just to ease Mckinnons mind a little bit?
Reading what McKinnon wrote he was clearly upset by Smiths actions so how hard it would it be for him to call or msg...even if he doesn't think he did anything wrong its called being the bigger man. Maybe smith doesn't have that in him though. If he had done that just to check on him maybe he wouldn't be getting blasted by 60 minutes now.

To be brutally honest, when I saw this tackle, and the following replay,I then thought to myself "WTF was McKinnon thinking?"

It's a tragedy what has happened to Alex, and I'm sure he will be looking forward one day to the day when surgical procedures will enable him to completely recover.

But in the aftermath of all of this, the one thing the sporting world doesn't really need is for a media broadcaster to end up polarizing half the nation because of it.

How is Cam acting like he did, in any way a suprise to anyone?

In my opinion, he is the most single-minded player in the approach he takes to winning.
Ethics, morality, even legality come second in Cam's mind, when compared to winning.
This situation with McKinnon was no different.

I can't imagine McKinnon really gives two shits whether Smith calls/messages him or not. He has much, much more important things to worry about and I guarantee you the Smith thing is a blip on the radar that 60 Minutes played up to drum up controversy and draw attention to the story. They love nothing more than a foe to their friendly.

In any normal situation, it's a total non-issue. Every captain does it. People just have their pitchforks out because it's been played over and over again. Was he insensitive in the situation? Sure. Was he aware of just how serious it was? Not a chance.

That was an unfortunate head clash, no penalty there, I don't have a problem with it, but I remember Leilua ran in and gave him a gob full, did he really have to do that? No need for it, and would cop plenty from his coach.

Smith was dirty that it was ruled a knock on.

For someone with such a big head, I suspect Leilua's brain takes up a surprisingly small percentage of it.

Well Alex can imagine it since he wrote about how he hasn't heard from Smith and he was in Smiths situation he would of atleast made contact to check.

"
But if my dream had come true to captain Australia, I know I would’ve had the decency to at least get in touch with someone in my situation via a phone call or text message after the accident, especially if I had witnessed the distressing scenario with my own eyes.
That’s the type person I am.
I have not heard from the person claiming “It’s all my fault” once since the accident.
The Australian captain heard my screams and surely he would’ve noticed the white terror on my face.
To his credit, at least Jordan McLean made that effort to reach out"

Seems to me like he cares a little bit.

Just a hypothetical.
Besides fan backlash, what would jhappen to Cam if it were proven he knew the spine was broken and legitimately didnt care?
And in the following weeks he makes inapproprioate calls like 'lets mckinnon them' and vulgar statements like that
Even if he didnt make such a statement, what if Cam comes out and says he doesnt care?

Not suggesting that Cam would EVER do something vile like that, but what would happen if a player did do that? Would the NRL penalize them for bad taste?

I'm curious how something like that would be handled.

One thing I think we can all agree on. Channel 9 are merkins for doing this hatchet job at all, are merkins for timing it just before origin, are merkins for presenting one side of the story....

I thought 60mins were meant to have some of the better 'journalists'.

The sooner the game makes a break from 9 the better, they are a blight on the game.

I'm not.

It's as if he's blaming Smith for the tackle.

where do you get that?

he's simply lashing out at smith for accusing him of permanently disabling himself, i would hopefully be right in saying that is a natural reaction for anybody in alex's shoes.

alex is saying he's stewed on it because till now smith still hasn't reached out to him to soften that accusation

anybody bregrudging alex for his right to feel this way is as big a scumbag as scam smith
