does it really matter if he said ill smash you, or ill smash your phone ?

no doubt whatever was said was in a threatening manner, so he either threatened the bloke or he didn't.

Makes a big difference imo.

If he carried out his threat, 1 would be a hell of a lot worse than the other.

It doesn't matter if your sanction is the same. What do you reckon it should be?

i come back to a point i made last week - an international and origin player with a big profile should not be stupid enough to get into these situations. if his brother was acting like a dick he should have gone and stopped his brother - not threaten the ref or his phone.

whatever can be argued about whether the ref should/shouldn't have stopped the game or should/shouldnt have spoken with david afterwards does not in anyway justify the attitude and aggression of the fifita brothers.

1 is worse than the other, but he's still made a threat towards an official and the dickhead should have realsied that this wasnt appropriate in any way

Why do you think Andrew went out there in the first place?

To do exactly as you said.

Why would the ref then need to take out his phone and start filming him?

If you shoved you phone up and said you were filming me, I'd smash your phone. No right what so ever to film anyone without permission as far as I am concerned.

Attempting to film or record someone on the phone, isn't a justification for threatening violence though.

He would want to have a better excuse than that. (Not that Im saying this is excuse)

I think it is well established that he is this stupid.

I hope he's man enough to admit he should've stayed out of it (or pulled David away, as you said) but somehow I get the feeling that he probably has no remorse .

Anyway, what's happened has happened but anything more than a 2 or 3 game suspension is enough for the crime.

Our club has overreacted before in standing players down or sacking them imo (not Carney), so we are within our rights to give him fair punishment, not 1 driven by media hype.

Big difference in saying to a bloke I'll smash you
Compared to
Saying to a bloke (who is filming you because of who you are ) and saying I'll smash the phone if you don't delete it.

Anyone who thinks it is the same thing are full of it.

Not defending him. He should have walked away. the dope with the whistle also should not have got his phone out and suggested he was taking video.

No doubt the twins are dumb as two bricks, however there are more sides to this than what was first reported

No doubt a ban as an example, but one that is reasonable, not a knee jerk reaction that makes abusing women seem less important than abusing some dope with a whistle and a phone.

You can film whoever you want if it is in a public setting but if you ask them to stop and they refuse then issues such as harassment comes into it. Andrew said that he'll smash his phone, different from smashing him which would be out right battery as opposed to damaging private property. It will come down to weather the threat was credible and weather the ref harassed Andrew. The fact that a ref pulls out a phone while he's officiating should have consequences too you would think, are you not meant to be controlling the game rather then playing with your phone?

lol at Miller defending the indefensible, A+ for effort though. Here we have a rep player in the top league in the world at a kids game. Regardless of what he said he'd smash or if the ref felt he needed to film what was happening the guy has a responsibility to the game that is paying him big $'s. He's out of order, He should have apologised, said it was in the heat of the moment, had his picture taken shaking hands with the ref and ordered to d0 200 hours volunteer work with the PAnthers leagues set up. All blown over in a day or two and we get back to the footy. Instead we have this BS with lawyers and he said she said.

According to the daily mail the ref DID say that Andrew said he'll smash him and not the phone.

http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/art...ed-threatening-bash-referee-junior-match.html

Ref recorded the incident and should have the video. If the ref has bullshited I'd throw his ass in prison for giving a false statement, if daily mail made that quote up then prepare for a law suit, if Andrew did threaten the ref then get ready for a long ban.

Dont know about in NSW but in WA all the coppers now have go pros strapped to their heads like ref cam! Maybe he was used to having video evidence to back up the claim being made? I thought it was after the game not during it that it happened?

No need for a ban from any games but they should have to do community service which will hopefully do some good for them both.

If its after the game then its understandable. If he's threatened a ref he should be banned, if the ref has lied he should be thrown in jail. Someone has to pay the price.

Talk about getting it wrong

It wasn't a " kids game" it was A grade.
The ref started filming the wrong bloke FFS
It was D Fifita who was swearing at him
A Fifita walked over to ( with many others ) have a look.
Then the ref pointed the phone at him
He was asked to stop and delete it
Then the ref according to some eye witnesses'
Said he knew who A Fifita was and that he was in a public place
That's when A Fifita told him he'd smash the phone etc.
