For mine:

1. Wally Lewis

2. Peter Sterling

3. Andrew Johns

4. Brett Kenny

5. Allan Langer

Maybe - its hard to compare generations but back in the day they didnt have full time video analysis of players and professional attitudes. techniques etc.. like they do now.
For mine on this list - (and there will always be a great debate) but Wally wasnt great in the NRL. Yep had a good game very now and then but in Rep games he was dynamic but I think he was a lot like Mal in that he could be very lazy in NRL games. Joey on the other hand reigned supreme in todays professional league.
Forget Ben Kennedy - If Joey wasnt playing in 2001 we would have won the GF by 30 points.
A bastard off the field Joey but .. what a player.

sad way for anyone to go out of the game, considering the last game that he played he personally referred to as his worst game and then an injury.

unfortunately not everyone gets to choose the way they bow out of the game.

great player, the best that i have seen in a week to week basis.

just heard from super scoop Danny Weidler that Johns has faked the injury and the retirement because of his shaky relationship with BS. Will sign with Parra next year after contract is void and join back with super coach Hags. Must be true if Weidler said. ;-)

Huge news. Sure to see Finch, Smith or Green leave when this is confirmed. This beats Twiz's big announcements.

Not sure whether this would be possible in light of salary cap / contractual restrictions this year, but someone at Eels head office should be on the blower negotiating a consultancy role for Joey as soon as possible.

Specialist half coaching - imagine that - with some of the best young talent in the game to mould.

Eela, MITS - can you start putting the hard word on people?

He will have Jarrod Mullen under his wing for a while yet.

I can't really remember much of his career except for getting ironed out by Jamie Goodard in origin that year.

are we naming top 5 ever?

well from what i've seen ....

1 - Johns
2 - Lewis
3 - Lockyer
4 - Fittler
5 - Daley
6 - Sterlo

of them - johns has major wanker tendancies, lewis too - fittler was an arrogant dick alot of the time - laurie daley seemed ok but sh*t he annoys me as a commentator - sterlo seems like a decent guy ..... so my top 4 are all dicks, but hey they were good footballers

edit: oh yeah lockyer ... sorry sterlo .... lockyer slots in at 3 - by all accounts he's an arrogant knob too

will have to agree to disagree on that one. Lockyer is one of the good guys. A very genuine top fella.
