B-Dos - read the article again. We WERE getting him at half the usual rate. He is now asking for the rate to be doubled.

So by my sums:

If $15,000 is "half the usual rate" then the usual rate is $30,000.
If he is asking for $30,000 then he is charging us the actual rate.

It isn't as though he is necessarily doing us a favour this year.

What about the work Joey has done with Parras halves or the Bulldogs a few seasons back? Both those side finished in the bottom half of the comp with us. How about the performances of the NSW halves?

With all due respect to Mullo, I dont think he really has an objective perspective on value for money.

the raiders and manly both made the 8 this year. melbourne obviously would have too

but really,, i find it amazing you guys are saying he is a waste of money. talk about looking for excuses

the guy is the best player to play the game. he is coaching 3 other clubs. his wealth of knowledge of the game is indisputable. our players think he is a valuable coach.

to top it off we actually do want him, we just dont wanna pay.

yeah i heard this on the news this morning

now its starting to shed some light on the disastrous way this club is being run

if we cant afford 30k per year to keep one of the best players of all time, and a legend of the club around to impart his wealth of knowledge to our up and comers there is something terribly wrong

typical of burraston is the 'i didnt know whats going on' excuse.. does this guy take any responsibility for the way his club operates? it seems all 'dont look at me' with this guy

i think we can safely say that should the club privatise we can look forward to being run like most other clubs and have the chicken feed to keep up with the likes of 3 other clubs in paying johns to coach our halves.

FMD, way to miss the point and turn the discussion into another one of your "anti Knight's admin" rants. I don't give a sh*t if he's Andrew Johns, the club still has the right to look at things objectively. From what's been going around in the papers and that, it appears that Joey doesn't spend that much time here as it is, and now that he's offered his services to even more clubs, we'd probably be seeing him even less. I think the club has every right to question the fact that he's asking for more money, to spend even less time here.

And just on Mullen, what the hell do you expect him to say? Of course he's going to say that he finds Joey helpful. In all honestly though, I don't think that Joey can help Mullen all that much. They're completely different players. Joey was a real planning half. He was able to scheme and anticipate what would happen plays and plays in advanced. Mullen is the complete opposite though. His greatest strength imo is his ability to think on his feet, and play what's right in front of him. If he can sense that a defender has held back for even the slightest moment, or raced in, he'll be able to punish.

It just seems to me like everyone is trying to force Mullen to play Joey's game instead of his own, and I'm getting sick of it. Mullo is an extremely talented player, however we're never going to see it if everyone keeps trying to get him to change his natural game so it's more like Joey's. So maybe not having Joey around as much will be good for Mullen and his natural game?

I think those questioning his value and performance as a coach are right to do so.

Whether you are right to use this to take yet another shot at the Knights administration is questionable.

Do I think his input to the club over the last 3 years in relation to results is worth a 100% payrise? Not really.

Is the club right to question whether it is worth paying double for his services? Of course they are.

for the record, its not johns performance thats the issue

its the fact the club want him but only want to stump up half price

thats not our astute managements clever valuation on what his services are worth

thats simply a symptom of our clubs financial position and our clear inability to pay anything more...

He worked weekly with Parra.

He worked monthly with us.

30k for 2 hours a month is a great gig if you can get it.

No mate, thats you simply making an assumption on the reasons why they have made that decision.

thats correct JW

im confident in my assessment given the clubs well known financial troubles and in light of the facts as they have been presented by both parties

Andrew Johns is arguably the greatest player to have graced our game and we were extremely fortunate that he played for us.

From my recollections, and I have said it on here before the bloke did us no favours when it came to contract negotiations, even in the twilight of his career.

Through his management he pushed for top dollar every time. He strung out his final contract negotiation until the death and would have been more then happy to leave us and head to Rugby Union if the ARU had been willing to take a punt on him and we all know their reluctance to do so payed off for them.

A 100% increase, in any terms is a 100% increase and that what his management were seeking.

Johns is represented by one of the champions of media spin. Unfortunately at present I read any articles from the media with sceptisism because there is a clear agenda to unstabalise the club management. No doubt Johns' camp gave this to the media as his relationship with Barry Toohey is well documented.

Without knowing all of the facts, and I stress we don't know all of the facts on anything that has transpired in recent months Burraston has done a reasonable job in very difficult circumstances. In fact, I am sure I read somewhere that Burraston would be kept on by Tinkler so that must mean that he has confidence in him.

Good players rarely make good club coaches Yosh.

Fittler = fail
Stewart = fail
Meninga = fail
Pearce = fail
Lamb = fail
Langmack = fail

Dessy Hasler would be the only exception I can think of

No offense Joker but.
Gould
Fulton
Malcom Riley?
Maybe when Joey is older.
Funny how this happened after Andrew spoke in favour of the Tinkler offer.

Did none of you read Pika's post?

2 hours a month. Whether it be $15K or $30K it is a ridiculous cost that the club doesn't need.

At $30K a year...that equates to $1,250 per hour on the basis that he comes up 12 times. Talk about unrealistic...

that of course assumes the agreement was for johns to work 2 hours per month for 30k

if indeed it was then i agree that kind of money is ridiculous

i find it hard to believe this is the going rate (paid by three clubs) for a part time rugby league coach
