That's nice.

My stance doesn't change.

That's because you're an idiot.

I should cut you a bit of slack, Baron. All this post was missing was the obligatory GO THE KNIGHTS at the end... which he of course achieved in his previous post on the thread.

... and Bushy, cut me some slack. I wrote that on my phone whilst... occupied.

Spoiler alert: That's someone from LU having a troll.

All for it. Absolutely. Even though Tinkler crashed and burned, I still believe private ownership is the way forward. Furthermore, one of the biggest flaws of Tinkler was how he ran it; took all money from the club and placed it in his own pockets. Marwan Koukash is so far from "another Nathan Tinkler", that it's somewhat wrong to even think of it so. He's an incredibly smart bloke who has the funds to completely take Newcastle to the next level.

Although it's only been a year, what he's done for Salford is incredible and I'm very interested to see what he would be able to do with a club like Newcastle.

Im on board, i like him. (still need the independent board seats for balance though)

This interview shows that he understands the difference between success on the field and success off it. A team can come last and still have a great year business-wise, or they can come first and have a terrible business *cough Manly*

He talks more about developing the club development, facilities and fan engagement rather than wins, which is great.

It doesnt matter if he cares about the Knights or if this is just a way to boost his profile in Australia, either way he would need to run the Knights well....

Personally, I'd like to go into private ownership.

In the Super League, is there a salary cap? We have a cap in the NRL, so how'd we afford the mega players, regardless of having a billionaire owner?

Mr Billions tried to sign SBW with his ESL team, he's got me interested already.

Provided due diligence is carried out, our best hope at being a consistent powerhouse is to offer a football environment that is superior to what there is in Sydney. This can only happen if it is privatised and bankrolled.

It is not that we are inundated with superstars wanting to come to the knights.

I don't have an issue with another private owner assuming the appropriate safeguards are put in place.

I can however understand some people being gun shy after the Tinkler saga

In reality in terms of the state of the club now, we weren't even really 'burned' by Tinkler. Yes there were obviously dramas during his reign, but he did deliver on a lot of stuff, namely facilities, junior development etc. He also gave us Bennett which if you overlook how that has played out, still would never have happened without him.

The bit that worries me is that if this Koukash bloke or any other future potential owner(s) enters the frame and looks like a great option for our club, Tinkler received so much bad press (and I'm not saying he hasn't deserved his fair share of it), that people are going to blanket his time in charge as a mistake, and as a result will indeed approach any future private ownership model with even more suspicion than Tinkler's bid was met with.

I love the idea of being bankrolled by a billionaire, but long term stability should take precedence.

Front page of the Herald says "Keep your Kash", so we at least know how the local media is going to approach this.

Quayle is a man to be listened to however he is not really committing to our club is he. He Is an NRL appointee who will piss off once the club is under new management. In short after we lost Bennett I really no longer care what he thinks. We have been sold bullshit by the NRL from day one post Tinkler. If Smith wanted to keep Bennett here he would have. We can either make up the numbers or roll the dice on Koukash.

For real?

Bloody hell, that is so short sighted its not funny. Will we ever come out of the dark ages when it comes to operations?

What I got from the Quayle article was more than he was pushing for the the administrative side of the club to be set up first before they worry about a buyer...not that he was against a particular buyer. I can't disagree with that. It's fine to take handouts from a rich owner but really above all that we want the club to be set up to support itself so we don't need to keep relying on someone throwing money in. A good owner on top of that would just be the icing on the cake. Look at Crowe, barely has to put money into the side anymore because the right structures are in place.
