Is there some reason why some stadium names aren't sold in Auckland?

Namely Mt Smart, North Harbour Stadium and Eden Park.

Mt smart was Ericsson (which a lot of people still call it), what happened there?

The stadiums not suburban grounds in oz seem to have em.

ANZ, Allianz, AAMI, Suncorp, Skilled, dairy farmers......

Surely it would be worth a bit, you have it mention bloody everywhere. Radio, tv, billboards, concert ads etc
Bloody good question.

Aside from the stadiums we already have Vector Arena, and I think that thing in Manukau is called the TelstraClear something-or-other. Plus don't ASB have naming rights on the tennis courts in Stanley Street? Seems strange that the bigger stadiums wouldn't take advantage, unless they're pricing themselves out of the market.

Personally I'd welcome a naming rights sponsor for Mt Smart as long as it wasn't something ridiculous. The extra $$$ would be handy.

On the other hand though, I've heard the only reason ANZ took on naming rights for ANZ Stadium is because no-one else wanted it and ANZ decided they might as well try and get some returns on the massive debt they're holding. Maybe big-city stadiums just aren't good money spinners for corporate sponsorships these days?

Another thing about ANZ Stadium is that clubs actually get paid to play their home games there. (similar with other games played at other places like Perth, Adeliade, Mackay, Gosford and Taupo etc.) From the posts I've read in here suggest that there's no financial incentive to go to Eden Park.

The league fraturnity need to tell them to f**k off

I don't mind Eden park although only been there with 30000 plus for kiwi warriors games. The facilities are better than mt smart, parking is ok (not as good as mt smart), location for me is ok (I'm closer to mt smart), traffic home is not as good although could be better when 10000 people leaving ground.

I don't feel same loyalty to mt smart as what I did to carlaw park. In about 1994 the same debate took place carlaw vs mt smart. Mt smart was actually worse then with temporary stands up everywhere.

I remember the redevelopment plans for Carlaw. Gee it looked good.

Miss the place that's for sure.

When you say facilities what do you mean specifically? the toilets? the physical seats because you can't mean the view.

Now that those homos have IAG on their jerseys, they can pay back the Auckland City Council, NZ Govt and ratepayers to pay for Eden Park for their two month over priced and under used shambles of a stadium!

Really?? Thats insane. The straight boundaries must only be about 40-45meters.

It actually no longer meets ICC requirements for minimum ground area. It gets special dispensation due to its history.

Just heard on the wireless that the Warriors want rd2 v Roosters to be played at EP to cash in on the SBW factor....

It's hard to fault that. Makes perfect financial sense - first home game (even if there's still a stench from this year), the ready-made marketing through the return to NZ of SB fecking W in the press etc.
