You could claim he wasn't being paid anything like 500k, and that he played awesome last year, too.

No one would believe it but

If I had some of the drama's in my personal life that Watmough had going on last year, I would be leaving "work" as soon as it was over and heading home.

But let's just ignore the fact that footballers are human and have lives outside of football, have wives, have families, have the same kind of issues and challenges we all face and let's put shit on the guy for claiming he was keen to get home after work in one media interview.

Of course he is human. I am not having a go at the toughness of the guy or his effort. I am stating that he has not been a good signing for our club. I am sure his effort is there. And if he has problems at home then i feel for him. But it is not going to change the fact that he is not playing good for our club as of yet.
And i can not help but wonder if he knew prior to signing the 4 yr deal that his body would not hold up. Surely it has crossed other peoples minds on here to?

Difficult for a bunch of Internet Nuffies to know much about the culture at the eels.

Lucky we have smart merkins like you and pou who know enough to tell us what to think.

Obviously the culture must be beyond reproach given the unparalleled success we've had on and off the field for so long

A clubs marquee signing should probably be close to awesome. Not just a solid first grader

Exactly.....I have seen to many big name signings flop at this club. From sandow to dykes to cannings.

Except mediocre and thats what you become

Calm down penis fingers. I was including myself in the Internet Nuffies description.

Wait a minute, this started out with merkins claiming he was a bad signing. Where's your f**king proof?

I'll bite.

For a marquee signing:

- He played only 70% of games this season with a win percentage of 41%
- He was a marquee signing at around half a million dollars and did not deliver one man of the match performance
- He openly admitted to not embracing his year at Parramatta and rushing to and from training as soon as possible. I imagine not many 'extras' were done. Not a great example for the young forwards he was meant to be mentoring
- He had family issues so one could assume his mind wasn't 100% on footy (understandable and no fault of his, just unfortunate)
- For a part of the season he decided to be a ball player and for a guy that can't pass that does not end well
- And finally we signed an ageing, wrecked player for 4 years.

Now you go and tell me how he was a good signing

Culture is more than the performance on the field.

You are right. It's about embracing the club. Doing the extras after training. Hanging out with your team mates. Buying into the club As well as your performances on the field.

It's more than that. It's all the millions of little things that happen while you and I are writing shit on the Internet.

With what he and his wife went through...poor buggers.

He went through a hell of a lot.

I have a lot of respect for Anthony.
