WATMOUGH - MODERN DAY SUPERHERO
Made my day...............

WATMOUGH - MODERN DAY SUPERHERO
It also sounds like a guy who wasn't buying into the Parramatta Eels.
And one who will rectify that. Or else why admit it publicly?
Anyway, his on-field leadership was obvious - look at how we went without him.
Time will tell as it always does. I'm not going to project any more than I hope that if he gets back on the field he contributes to a successful year. If he doesn't, then I wish him well for the future beyond NRL. I somehow associate his time at Parra with Jason Taylor's time in blue & gold. They both came to Parra a few years too late in their careers.
Someone could always go back and dredge up posts about why Watmough was signed and why it was or wasn't a good idea. Or not.
Someone could, but it won't be me. Can't change the past. I would rather be involved in the reality show of 2016 and it starts on Thursday night. ;-)
I'm backing him to rectify it if he overcomes his injuries. What I'm saying is that him building a strong culture last year and setting an example for our young forwards was not what so many posters on here want to believe.
Parramatta coach Brad Arthur has urged Anthony Watmough to stop putting himself under too much pressure, believing the form of the NSW back-rower hasn't been as bad as he claims.
Watmough said this week he didn't feel he was living up to his billing as the Eels' big off-season signing but Arthur insists he doesn't expect the former Manly star to win games on his own.
Arthur's side lost 22-6 to Wests Tigers on Easter Monday 10 days after shocking NRL premiers South Sydney at Pirtek Stadium.
They host the struggling Gold Coast Titans on Saturday.
Watmough made just 74 metres against the Tigers and dropped the ball twice mid-set, with Arthur saying he felt the 32-year-old was trying too hard to make an impact.
"He's not been bad, he just sets high expectations like we all do and if we're not reaching them the boys are going to be critical of themselves," Arthur said.
"I just want to see him play more towards our style. He doesn't have to be there all the time. I just want him to relax a little bit, do his job and not overplay his hand.
"He tries hard, he wants to lead, he wants to dominate and play 80 minutes but we don't need him to do those things."
It is easy to bag Watmough?s performances in 2015 after coming across from Manly on huge money. It has left most fans questioning the decision to sign the veteran on a four-year deal.
When that was put to Arthur, he let rip: ?He has been bashed from pillar to post.
?People have no idea what these blokes go through. The amount of needles and treatment that him and Danny Wicks had to have.
?After round two (Watmough) probably shouldn?t have been playing but you know what? He was our marquee signing and they would have went through the roof if he wasn?t playing.
?So he just went ?yep, I?ll play?. And he kept playing and the physios tried to rule him out for five weeks straight and he kept going.
?He?d say ?if you want me, put a needle in me and I?ll play?.
?Towards the end him and Danny weren?t training. They could hardly lift their arm up to put their jersey on and they couldn?t take their jersey off at the end of the game.
Arfur made em play because who woulda gone through the roof?
Well I don't think you'd know, to be honest.
I'll trust what the coach says about him, above the player's own attempt at humility:

How keen would he be to hang around training when he's unable to set an example while he's there? Nobody wants to be the injured guy who sits on a exercise bike while their mates are hurting on the training paddock.
And despite this, in his last half a dozen games he found his groove and went well, hitting 100 metres in all games bar one.

Looks like someone did one better, and dredged up old media articlesWell I don't think you'd know, to be honest.

I actually agree with Arthur here - I thought Choc was good.
I'd be sad to see him go.
If I had some of the drama's in my personal life that Watmough had going on last year, I would be leaving "work" as soon as it was over and heading home.
But let's just ignore the fact that footballers are human and have lives outside of football, have wives, have families, have the same kind of issues and challenges we all face and let's put shit on the guy for claiming he was keen to get home after work in one media interview.
We aren't debating his reasons for rushing off after training. We are saying that we didn't get value from his "marquee" half a million dollar pay packet (at least) and that in fact maybe he hasn't been as good for the culture of the place like some have suggested
