Last year Watmough couldn't wait to leave training and head home. His heart wasn't in it. Regardless of the reasons, That's not great for the culture of the place.

How many players at any club would hang back? I'm not too sure how many players do extras.

He was showing them the way out just incase of an an emergency situation-Great leadership and putting himself at risk and danger first

I think I understand your thinking on this hindy111. The credit for supposedly turning around our club culture is being given by a very long bow. He may well have had f**k all to do with it, and was stupidly overpaid, but if he retires immediately then we haven't lost much, and may have gained more. And no, I'm not convinced he brought others to the club, but who knows.

I don't think he would have come if the coach hadn't wanted him here. Plus I'm sure the coach knew how old he was and how many injuries he'd had.

So why do you think the coach wanted to bring him here?

Are you suggesting the coach knew he was a crock and brought him over on a four year contract purely for his ability to positively influence our young forwards and to attract other players?

Was he a crock? Besides a couple of passes he didn't need to throw, he ran the ball well and his defence was excellent. We struggled after he went for surgery.

Maybe it like this. Watmough ( the used car with 300,000k on the clock) was getting traded in by the owner ( his manager). They fronted the dealership (Parramatta) and the new car manager (Arthur) made a deal. He sent Watmough for an inspection with the used car manager ( training staff/ doctors) and found out he bought a lemon. Rather than sell him to the wholesaler for a loss (shop him around) he put Watmough on the lot without a warranty.

I dunno. I ask because you said the coach knew how old he was and how many injuries he'd had. And then asked why whoever it was thinks we still brought him over. Seemed a clear implication that you thought he came for anything but his ability on the field. (Or to see out his contract, with which I wouldn't argue.)

Well he wasn't embracing his time here. He said so himself.

That's not quite what he said (he said he didn't embrace it enough). He wasn't happy with his own input. He's not the first player to reflect on an unsuccessful season that way, as a gee up for the next one. I'd be loathe to use that single interview as the sole basis for assessing his attitude.

I heard when watmough trained then all the others did to. Before he came they used to just sit around and look at the sky.
